Used to be my favourite spot in Aberystwyth but since the new ownership takeover a couple of years ago I have found myself less and less impressed with each visit. Today was kinda the last straw for me, and me and my family probably won't be coming back again, which is really devastating since I used to absolutely adore this place a number of years ago.
The sandwiches are incredibly overpriced for what they are; paid over £7 for a toastie that was just incredibly disappointing for the price, enough to put me and my family off eating here permanently. The presentation was poor, the food itself tasted low quality, and it wasn't enough of a serving to feel anywhere near satisfied afterwards. So much so I walked into town after eating to buy more food from somewhere else.
The service was fine, 3 stars because I didn’t interact enough with the staff to make a thorough judgment and it would be unfair to judge solely off of 2 interactions but I was feeling a little unsatisfied with the interactions I had.
On the note of atmosphere, the pigeons are a massive problem, there were multiple on my table trying to eat my food and peck at my shoes and would not budge no matter how hard I shook the table or tried to shoo them away with my hands or feet, and I noticed I wasn't the only person having this problem.
Long and the short of it is, food is overpriced and unsatisfying, service is fine, pigeons are so much of a problem that its almost not worth eating outside, and as a genuinely heartbreaking result; after years of coming here everytime we are in Aber, me and my family will not be...
Read moreFish and chips! Recently I had just about given up with a classic British dish.. fish and chips. I live in Hereford which I accept in very much inland.. but regularly visit seaside towns and I am constantly disappointed by being overcharged for really poor quality wafer thin greasy undercooked fish and chips.. I had given up!... Then I came to Aber! We arrived last week and went to The Prom cafe on the promenade... wow!! The most amazing tasting fresh fish and chips ever!!! Absolutely delicious! Generous size, melt in the mouth served in a basket with a good wedge of fresh lemon, literally a stones throw from the beach! Good value, excellent friendly staff. The best fish and chips we had tasted in a long long time! Knowing that I was going to be visiting again this week with another mate of mine all week I was looking forward to fish and chips again! .. yet again, didn't disappoint, it was lovely. A highlight of my trip! (The only - minus was very expensive for ketchup/mayo etc) The town was vibrant too with excellent shops and facilites, good free parking, friendly locals, great independents as well as High Street favourites... absolutely loved the place, we are looking forward to making some regular visits here! Well done! Really top marks! Highly recommended beautiful Welsh seaside...
Read moreIt’s outdoor eating but there was a section under parasols. Right on the Promenade as the Name suggests. Initially we stopped by for tea and cakes mid morning. As the food and atmosphere was so nice we returned later in the afternoon for late afternoon lunch. Fish and chips were delicious golden battered fish with chips with tartare and curry sauces. The service was order at the counter and a alarm device was given and buzzed when the food was ready for collection at the counter. There was also alcoholic drinks available. Which we decided to try overlooking the beach. It’s a dog and wheelchair friendly place. Highly recommend ! Finally I was unable to add any food recommendations as the sos and bacon roll wouldn’t...
