I searched the Internet to find a gluten free chip shop for my friend. Three of us went on Friday 12th September 2025, I've given 2 stars because I did enjoy my seafood platter, and it was good value, I couldn't eat it all. However, my friend who has a severe allergy to gluten has been poorly ever since she ate her "gluten free" fish. Clearly, the person who cooked it does not understand what a severe allergy is, you cannot cook gluten free items with wheat based items, this must be what happened. Day trip to Aberystwyth and The Express popped up, just outside the train station. Not too busy, and we were peckish. Decided on the cod and chips and a pot of tea for two. The tea was well brewed with fresh milk and hot water to top up. Easily 5, maybe 6 cups of tea between us. The real star of the show was the fish and chips. Freshly cooked and hot. Lovely chips and the fish were so melt in your mouth and fresh. Coupled with a light crispy batter, this was the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. Absolutely love this place, I have coeliacs and the make the fish and chips completely separately so I don't have a reaction. My friend who has an egg allergy can eat the gluten free battered chips as well. Neither of us have ever had an allergic/ coeliac reaction when we've had food from here. Staff are friendly and very patient when I asked them questions about how the food is prepared and what is in the batter.
