I phoned ahead to check if reservations were needed and was told that since Covid, they no longer take bookings. Fair enough – I assumed we could simply show up and find a table. However, when we arrived, there was a table clearly marked as unavailable, which seemed to indicate it had been reserved. This felt confusing and contradictory given what we’d been told on the phone.
We were a party of four, including my 93-year-old grandmother, and asked if there was a seating option more suitable for her than the bench we were offered. Unfortunately, the staff made no effort to accommodate us, even though there was a nearby table where only two people were seated at a table for four – surely one of the spare chairs could have been moved to help. They were also playing psy trance hardcore dance music, which in a tearoom seemed very inappropriate, can’t imagine that’s the vibe of many of the clientele and it definitely changed the...
