We booked a table as soon as the place opened on Friday evening. We turned up and the service was initially welcoming and the waiter showed us our table. We were the second set of people in the restaurant so it was very quiet. We received our starter dish, which was prawn katsu but it was dry, flat and tasted like cheap frozen supermarket prawns in breadcrumbs.
As more groups of people arrived, our main dishes came out slowly one by one until I was sat waiting for about 15 minutes. My daughter had already finished her dish. I looked over at a family who had arrived much later than us and they all received their food including starters, main dishes and drinks. They were given priority, possibly because they were a bigger group.
I asked a waiter politely if he can find out where my main dish is and he was impatient and snappy with me saying “.. I will find out where it is OK” so he brought it out quickly. It was luke warm and tasteless. I gleaned from this that it had been sat in the kitchen for a long time and the staff had left it there.
When I complained about the very slow service to one waitress she was apologetic and said she will find out what happened but then I heard nothing more. I asked the second waitress for the bill and she was very cold, rude and stuck up. When our first waiter who showed us our table returned, he took the bill payment and pointed to the option of leaving a tip on the card machine. I chose ‘no thanks’ and I heard him mutter something under his breath so I looked up immediately at him as he was peering at the card machine and saw him finishing muttering his words. It was only when my partner asked him what happened with the complaint made, that he admitted that he heard about this and then apologised.
Anyway after this experience, I won’t be...
Read moreRUDE and RACIST waitress. Went for lunch on Sunday. Customer service was awful. The waitress asked us for drinks and we wanted water. Straight away he shouted: no tap water, we don’t have. Then we asked for still water, when he started asking if we wanted still water, sparkling or table water. I said still, he carried on asking if table water. We were three girls and non of us knew what was ‘table water’ after ordering still water. And then the waitress sarcastically and disrespectful asked to my face: “Are you English?” What a disrespectful and RACIST comment to make. And no, as I responded him ‘ I am not English’ but for his accent, neither is him. My friends are both English and neither understood what was “table water”. Then to the table next to us he started telling them iff that because the energy prices go up they don’t serve tap water. Finally we were full and he kept coming to the table to check our food asking us to finish it. We ordered 3 times the bill, despite they keep coming to check if we finished 2 pieces of sushi left. And he refused twice to split the bill. Definitely very disappointed about the...
Read moreIt’s hard to give higher ratings as a lot of things do not reflect how good Japanese food should taste like. Sushi rice was over cooked, filling combo was strange; ramen was soggy, the garnish being blend and soup being bitter. It’s edible and there’re elements that are tasty, but I’m such a huge ramen fan that I just feel disappointed and culturally offended by the cookery knowing how favoured this place is.
But what’s more strange is I find it uncomfortable around the owner (as it seems), he keeps leaning super close to us, talking over us when we’re ordering when giving suggestions and touching whoever near him on the shoulder/back. I find that inappropriate and pushy even just to witness and we had to joke about it on the table. This made me feel very weird and angry and I hope this can be improved with either training or different staffing arrangements, as the other staff were friendly and professional.
A streamlined menu, more culturally accurate and attentive food, and maybe a change of the owner’s role in the place will help make a lot of things better for some...
