Although tables suitable for a group of five were available at the time of our arrival, the manager displayed an utter lack of any and all flexibility in accommodating us. Instead we were left waiting outside for more than 30 minutes while waiting for a particular table to get free. The irony was that the only alternative they offered (after a lot of pushing) was a table by the door for 4 people which though they were willing to fit 5 people.... Overall nonsensically inflexible and borderline rude. No point coming back when there is a plethora of excellent alternatives.
EDIT 20/03/2023: Could not find the way to respond to the owner so I am inserting the response here.
I am sorry to say that I was not offered the "only" table available. I am attaching a screenshot with the aforementioned table. I would love further explanation how the table in question (the one in the far back wall with the bench) blocks the toilets or puts safety in jeopardy.
The abrupt refusal with which, at that busy time, we were made waiting for no apparent reason is what caused me to write this review. The explicit statement "we reserve these tables for two groups of people rather than one" is what caused me to jokingly suggest "what if we come-in in two groups and sit down...". To try and diminish a review by belittling the reviewer on the grounds of rudeness in support of a nonsensical decision simply displays an utter lack of willingness to comprehend
I've visited Warwick Street Kitchen many times and it's one of my favourite local cafés and eateries. The service is always excellent and the atmosphere is lively and friendly. On this visit I had a decaf iced latte and the chorizo tostada with a side of hash browns. The decaf iced latte was pleasant though given the size of the glass it was served it, it seemed like there was much more ice than there was coffee. In future I'd probably just get a hot latte instead. The chorizo tostada was lovely for the most part but fell victim to one of my culinary pet peeves. It was topped with a big heap of pink pickled onions. I've been seeing this trend a lot recently where otherwise wonderful dishes are ruined by a mound of these picked onion slices are dumped on top of the dish. I think in small amounts in the right dishes they can add a lovely touch of sweetness and acidity but sadly in this case it was completely overwhelming. With my first mouthful, the only thing I could taste was pickled onions. I ended up picking off all the onions and scooting them to the side of the plate and the dish became much more pleasant. The chorizo was generous but cut into large semi-circles that were a bit tough to cut through given the bluntness of the knife provided. I think I would have preferred it to be cut into smaller bite sized pieces to better distribute through the dish. The hash browns were beautifully crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside, however, they were slightly...
Read moreSuch a disappointing experience. I visited Warwick Street Kitchen with family members up from London and we were all happy to find a roomy table with space to the side for the pushchair, it was lunchtime and the cafe’ was quite empty. Orders were placed after having to wait longer than expected for someone to attend our table. The order consisted of a waffle with maple syrup and ricotta cheese, presentation was sloppy with a teaspoon of something indiscernible which we gathered was the ricotta cheese on top. The second order was waffle with berry compote, mascarpone cheese and expresso syrup. Again, very sloppy presentation and what appeared to be coffee powder rather than syrup sprinkled on the pancake. The third order was a taco type shell with a bean filling, again sloppily presented but I am told it tasted okay. In hindsight I wish I had taken photos of the food which I could have posted alongside this review. Also with a toddler and baby our window of opportunity to sit and have lunch in peace is small, hence the reason for not complaining to staff at the time. WSK prices do not reflect the quality of food delivered, we, as a family are more than happy to pay for quality and will not be visiting WSK again. On leaving we noted several other eateries on the same street packed with customers enjoying delicious looking food, no wonder it was easy for us all to get...
