I used to be a regular at the Clarendon a couple of years ago and it was always a decent place for a good pint and interesting food. It was the sort if place that attracted a completely mixed crowd: students, business workers, hipsters, builders and parents.

I knew that it had changed hands and was a bit apprehensive. Even more so when I heard it's now owned by the same people who own Yates Wine Lodge and Slug & Lettuce.

Don't worry. It's good. They've redecorate, but not removed all the fantastic musician drawings. They've added their own character to the place, but not erased what made it a great place.

I've only been at lunchtime, and it wasn't busy, but it still had a good feel.

The barman (or manager) I chatted to was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer.

Great range of keg, cask & bottled beer. Interesting food menu.

Not too bright. Vintage consoles available. Sport on tv in a separate area and dogs are welcome.

If you are offered an upgrade to "angry chips", say yes. Don't ask, just say yes.

A wholehearted recommendation. Glad they didn't ruin the place. Now if they could just do something about Yates in...

Was booked in for a group of 20. Prepaid and sent menu choices. I was really looking forward to seeing friends and having xmas meal together. On arrival, we find we have been crammed into the smallest space ever. Separate tables squashed in so no chance of chatting with anyone other than those at the same table. Then the biggest disaster of all. Despite reserving the space and taking prepayment of £400, there was No Xmas menu for us... claiming they had not received our email.... Had to then choose from pub menu, that mostly consisted of burgers. Even then some of us went without food because several items off the meagre menu were not available. All in all, a shocking service, uncomfortable seating and generally grubby place. The one highlight was one member of staff, and sadly didn't get her name, who tried her very best with a bad situation. Needless to say, I will not be stepping foot inside this place again. Once was too...

Awful customer service! My partner and I organised a party of 25, 2 months in advance for 6pm. We received a confirmation email and even called up a week before to confirm. On arrival we were told the booking said 7 on the system even though we had the confirmation email. The manager was extremely rude and unapologetic and said there was nothing she could do. The real reason was that they were showing the 6 nations and she told us we would have to wait until the game was over to get our reserved area. If this was communicated to us when we rang in the week we would had altered our plans. We eventually got seat at 6.45 after all our guests had stood around the bar for 45 minutes.

Further to this, after even pre ordering the food to save time we still recieved certain dishes long after most people had finished eating.

Despite this, the food was nice however we will not be booking any further...

I booked a section of the bar for a surprise 60th birthday party and was not disappointed. From the prompt email correspondence regarding the booking to the actual night, it all ran so smoothly. The bar staff were great, especially Adam, who looked after us all evening. Thanks also to Linda, who dealt with our details during the day about what time the food and cake would come out. The kitchen staff laid on the most fantastic food, slider burgers, mini fish & chips, nachos, tacos, there was loads of it. So much, we gave a lot to some lovely grateful students! The atmosphere was just how I wanted it, chilled, relaxed and a great vibe. I'd recommend this place for any function any time. 10/10

Had a great burger and beer here on Friday night. Lots of nooks and crannies with their own atmospheres throughout. Decent music (if a little on the loud side for us 30 year olds), really tasty well-cooked food, great selection of beer and fast, friendly service. The only thing that let the place down was the fact there was a TV everywhere you looked - not being a sport-watching type, this would usually put me right off, but I'm glad we stuck around to try it because I'll definitely be back to order the Challenge Burger!
