While driving throughout the Cotswolds, I stopped and had a wonderful meal at The Royal Oak! This pub had an extensive gluten free menu full of pub favourites, which I found very intriguing. I ordered a Sunday roast with beef, the fish and chips, and a gluten free beer. The fish and chips were the standout - fluffy, thick chips, and lovely crispy fish. I also adored the horseradish dip. Unexpected winner! The Sunday roast had nice sides, and the gluten free Yorkshire pudding was delightful. The gravy was also very flavourful, despite being a bit runnier than I prefer. My only complaint was the toughness of the beef - after being inquired by the server, I asked for it to be rare. Unfortunately, it arrived a lot more cooked and tough than I had hoped. I didn’t end up finishing it. Overall, if you are gluten free and want to indulge in proper pub grub, this is a must in the area!

I think it’s the one of the best places to eat in Burford for reasonable prices ! Very cosy atmosphere and friendly staff! The portions are very generous and tasty! I would highly recommend trying the variety of pies they have on offer! Maybe a one for two ☺️! Thank you for doing a great job!

Eating here nearly hospitalised us. Merely a few hours after eating here, 3 members of our party of 4 began vomiting profusely with diarrhoea, HOURLY. And this was our reality throughout the night, and the frequency reduced to every few hours during the day. After 30+ hours of not eating, if we had not gradually started to feel better, we would have needed IV treatment from the loss of water. The 4th member also had a long run of diarrhoea with no vomiting however. Our meal before this one was 5 hours before, and was simply a vegan bagel from Burton on the water. So after a day of touring the Cotswolds, we decided to have dinner here. I loved coming to this place, and have come many times! But not only were we treated especially rudely this time, we had to suffer what we suffered. I urge you to strongly reconsider eating here.

There are only two rooms for overnight accommodation at the Royal Oak, both of which are accessed up an outside short metal staircase from the beer garden. The rooms are rustic rather than modern, which is what we expected. The room had a 7 ft ceiling. The room contained a large bed with comfortable pillows, two bedside tables with lamps, tea/coffee making facilities, fan, electric heater, TV, plenty of power points, iron, hairdryer, wardrobe and a good guest information folder. The ensuite bathroom had an instant electric hot water shower above a low bath. Shampoo, conditioner, body gel and body lotion were all supplied, together with two large bath towels and two hand towels. The internet was good but you had to reset if you closed it down. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful – a choice of cereals, orange juice, toast, tea, coffee and a very filling hot meal of fried egg, bacon, baked beans, tomato, sausage and mushrooms. Our hosts were very friendly and obliging. We enjoyed our stay very much.|In regard to parking, there is private parking for 4 to 5 cars at the rear of the building, accessed through Pytt’s Lane via Swan Lane from High Street as Witney Street is one-way towards High Street. From the Royal Oak, it is an easy level walk to the main street. There is also a public...

The main positive about our stay was that the bed was fairly comfortable and the staff were friendly. There were a few problems with the room that did put a downer on our stay:||There was a bright green fire exit light on the door to our room that shone directly at the bed and made it hard to get to sleep.||The heating is connected to the pubs heating which turns off in the evening meaning our room was rather cold. There was an electric heater but this was old and small but at least we could warm our room up a little. There is also an outer door to the rooms that can't be shut meaning it's even more difficult to keep the cold up. It is also means that the cigarette smoke from the pub garden comes up into the rooms through the outer door.||The bathroom is very basic and the decor is a little old and shabby. Overall I'd say it is in need of refurbishment. Our room did not look like those pictured here on trip advisor.||The breakfast had very limited options of cereal and no fruit or yogurt etc. but the cooked breakfast was good and there were...
