Now firstly let me say, I don't often leave negative reviews, but I felt people need fair warning about this place.
The second star is for location... Beautiful building, and we were lucky enough to get a window seat in the bay.
However...
If you have allergies, or are vegan, you should be careful.
On the menu it says 'Plant-Based Huffkin' - I assumed this would be plant-based because, well, that's what it says. I did ask because, on the Menu, it was only noted to be vegetarian.
I was told the Huffkin is in fact vegetarian (and therefore not plant-based at all) only the sausage inside would be... But they still seemed unsure of that. I asked if it could it be made vegan, and they told me they'll swap the Huffkin for normal bread, would that be okay? I said, as long as everything is vegan, that's fine, which they confirmed.
It arrived... A very expensive sausage sandwich (with a single, potato-based sausage - nothing else inside other that what I hope was plant-based butter - I was assured it would be) with some crisps (more potato) and a side salad.
My partner had the same salad on the side of hers, with the same dressing but she had a meat option. I asked if the salad dressing had milk in it and they said it did... I waited for a moment, expecting an apology and maybe a replacement. Instead they just said 'it isn't mandatory that you eat it.' I was stunned into silence, which may have been their intention, but wow. This was the same woman who I'd had the conversation with before, acting as though she'd never seen me in her life.
I ended up leaving the salad and half of the crisps and picking bits of bread from the sandwich, all covered in the salad dressing.
Also, the toilets were pretty horrendous.
Moral of the story - don't be allergic to milk or be a vegan and expect to be treated well at Huffkins... And use a public toilet because it's likely to be maintained much...
Read moreHuffkins staff were very good to us. We booked a family reunion of 12 people for lunch at Burford on Good Friday 2025. We had to ring Huffkins at the last moment on that morning, as one little girl in our party was poorly and she and her parents couldn't come for the booking time. The Huffkins staff were kind about that, and appreciated that we had contacted them as soon as we could. Then the other nine of us were just getting ready when one of us had an accident with a low beam in the house we had hired, and his brother had to take him to hospital. So we turned up at the cafe as a party of 7. Again, the staff took this in their stride, and acted on my suggestion that a table be taken away from our group, so it could be used by other customers. The food was delicious, and suited every one of us - adults, children, and those with vegan and gluten-free diets. It was delivered quickly to the table, which pleased the hungry children. The children and their Mum left after this, and the two people who had gone to hospital were thankfully able to join us, and had good meals too. We enjoyed the crispy chicken sandwich particularly, and went on to have delicious cakes - and our gluten-free person was delighted to be able to have a cream tea that she could eat safely. As it was holiday time the cafe was extremely busy, but the staff were very pleasant, helpful and efficient, and we had a very enjoyable lunch. I would highly recommend...
Read moreWe travelled from London for a family trip and had planned to visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens. We were a bit late so wanted to have the lunch on the go.
Saw the "Huffkins" bakery and ordered a mix of 6 sandwiches and toasties which costed under £30 (takeaway). The bakery was pretty much empty as there we only a few tables at the front occupied and all the tables at the back were empty!
We were asked to wait 10 mins as our takeaway was being prepared. We sat down around an empty table and waited for the food to be ready. The server handed our food to us and we said hey these are toasted sandwiches what if we quickly eat as the are served hot and we were hungry too!
We took a seat and one of us checked with the server, he said it's quiet so should be fine. He was kind enough to bring us some tissues as well.
2 mins after another staff came to us and said it's their policy that they charge "eat-in" price as we decided to eat from our pastry bags! We said its fair and happy to pay the difference, thinking it will be 20% of £30, max!
This second server came with a bill of £27 and some change for a £30 food bill!
I mean we are used with Eat-in/Takeaway price but come on! We decided to leave within 4-5 mins of sitting down and as originally planned had the sandwiches on the go.
They were happy to show us a wave good bye!
Hence my review, tasty food but be aware of their...
