Took one of my clients who is leaving my service today out for lunch to say goodbye. We ended up (by accident I add) at Ye Olde Cross Keys - couldn't of been more glad of this accident.
We went in and were greeted by Nicholas who was friendly, welcoming and extremely welcoming. There were four of us and we all ordered different meals and drinks, well what can I say ................. The food all came out at the same time, all the meals were fresh and 'HOT', it tasted beyond delicious, it was flavoursome, well presented and an appropriately sized portion (none of that skimpy plates you get in other establishments that leave you wanting more!!) all placed in front of us with a smile and a hope you enjoy.
Nicholas poured our drinks, ensured we had adequate cutlery and condiments and checked on us throughout our meal to ensure everything was ok.
All the above would have been sufficient for us to walk away with a smile on our faces. However I need to add apart from experiencing some amazing pub food, with a landlord / manager (Nicholas), who entertained us throughout and was an exceptional host, the cost was so reasonably priced we had to check it several times.
Not normally one for making recommendations, but THIS IS DEFINATELY ONE PLACE YOU NEED TO VISIT if you are ever in the Witney area.
Exceptional service, exceptional food, exceptional prices and a fabulous establishment...
Read moreWe had the absolute pleasure of visiting Ye Old Cross Keys, and it’s safe to say this gem of a pub exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, authentic, and quintessentially English, the kind of place that makes you instantly feel at home.
The star of the evening, without a doubt, was Bex, the bartender. She is nothing short of brilliant: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You can tell she takes pride in making sure every guest feels looked after, and her energy brings so much life to the pub. She’s the sort of person who turns a good night into a great one.
As for the food, it was exactly what you hope for when you come to a traditional English pub. The fish and chips were golden, crisp, and perfectly cooked, with flaky fish inside and that satisfying crunch on the outside, served with proper chips that tasted like comfort on a plate. The pie and mash was equally outstanding: hearty, rich, and bursting with flavour, with a buttery pastry crust that sealed the deal. Both dishes felt homemade in the best possible way, cooked with care and love.
All in all, Ye Old Cross Keys is everything a pub should be: excellent food, a warm and authentic atmosphere, and above all, staff who make the experience unforgettable. If you’re lucky enough to have Bex behind the bar, you’re in for an exceptional time. We’ll...
Read moreHaven't been to Witney for around five years but was local due to a birthday party. Imagine my delight when I found that the Cross Keys was still open!! Took my two young children for lunch and I'm glad I did!! We were greeted by a girl who asked me to make sure I scanned the track and trace and then showed to a very nice table in the window. We were then greeted by a lovely friendly man I can only assume was the manager. He instantly made the children laugh and took our drinks order. He then bought them to our table and took a food order. We didn't have to wait very long for the food and when it arrived it looked great. The burger I ordered was cooked just how I like it and the chips were crispy and not too salty. The children loved their food and not a bite was left!! The children then ordered chocolate brownie and ice cream. We were told there wasn't any brownie left but could put a slice of chocolate fudge cake as it's replacement. Never seen them eat a dessert so fast!!! The cake was delicious. All in all I'm glad I came back to Cross Keys and I will definitely be...
