The Nook Café could be a decent local spot, but the woman who seems to be the owner or manager (short hair, always stressed) completely brings it down. Just because she’s the owner doesn’t make her better than anyone else — and yet she acts like it. She’s been there for years and still hasn’t learned how to speak to customers with even basic manners. I’ve seen brand new staff with no customer service experience speak to me more politely than she ever has.
I avoid going in where possible because the vibe is uncomfortable, but my partner likes the breakfast sandwiches, so I’ve picked up takeaway a few times. I always order the same thing — a bacon & egg sandwich — and even if I’ve been a bit late collecting it, it’s always paid for and picked up.
Last time I called to place an order, she accused me of not collecting a bacon & egg sandwich and a BLT — but I’ve never ordered a BLT from there. Then she refused to serve me unless I agreed to eat inside. Why would I sit down and spend money in a place where I feel uncomfortable and unwelcome?
I’ve also seen other reviews about the short-haired woman being rude, and she always seems to have an answer for everything — anything but admitting she’s just a rude person who lacks customer service skills. The way she behaves, you’d think she was auditioning for Karen’s Diner — except this place isn’t meant to be part of the act.
The rest of the staff are friendly, but her attitude brings the whole café down. I go to Green Onions now — polite staff, relaxed atmosphere, and no unnecessary drama over a sandwich.
Edit: the owner shouted at me in the street, for my review and...

In response to the owners comments, i stand by what i said, over cooked and over priced. I ate it because i didnt want to waste my money, when asked how it was i said " it was alright" as didnt want to be rude, then when i was told it was £48 odd i honestly felt sick, which led to my negative review. Wont be coming back and won't be recommending 👍
Oh yeah and i ordered 3 extra items as 1 sausage, 1 egg and 2 bacon is tiny for for price so ordered an extra egg, piece of bacon and a sausage which was £2.50 more? Then my girlfriend requested to swap her black pudding for a hash brown, and got told it was going to be 50p extra! How petty.

Read moreCame here about a year ago and really enjoyed the food so came back a couple of months ago, but couldn't get in as it was packed. Place was quite e.pty today (BH) which we were supervised about. Ordered the pulled brisket ciabata and the goats cheese one too. Got to say they were delicious, but we were expected a sort of baguette style bread, not a very small batch at £9 each. They looked so lonely on the plate, no side salad, no handfull of crisps!!!! The ingredients were delicious, but come on, I know everyone is trying to save money where they can, but that's very expensive for a small batch on its own. Service was nice and attentive and I did raise this with the young lad who said he'd only started in the last couple of weeks and would make the manager aware. We both left as hungry as when we went in, and although the food was delicious, I'd struggle to return and justify...
