Rubens Coffee — Restaurant in Wirral

There's always 'Juan' knobhead.

Popped in for lunch on valentine's day, my wife and I ordered the breakfast pancakes. Service was fine and coffee was lovely.

When food came, my wife noticed her eggs were raw and slimy. She told me not to make a fuss or return it. I hadn't noticed and already cut my food up, ate some and then realized mine was the same.

I asked the lad behind the counter to come and look, he was very apologetic and assured me he would sort it. Next thing, the chef Juan came out and was poking through my plate. He told me that if I wanted my eggs over done then I should have asked. I told him that I'd have been happy if they were just done. Juan wasn't happy with this.

I was accused of taking too long to dispute that my eggs were raw, we'd only had the plate in front of us for a few minutes.

Ended up in Costa around the corner and the service was egg-ceptional and food was cooked...

I will never return to Rubens...

on entry to the place looked ok..... took a while for someone to acknowledge our presence at the counter waiting to be served, when we were finally asked what we wanted, we were told it would be a 25 minute wait for food, wasnt that busy inside, decided to order any way, ordered 2 dishes, 1 off the specials board, and 2 cappuccinos.. found a nice window seat, after about 5 minutes, was told that the meal i ordered off the specials board was no longer available today, ran out of the sun dried tomatoes, this was around 1 pm, changed order to panini (sweet chilli). when the food finally arrived, it wasnt presented very well, the wife got poached egg on toast, toast wasnt cut and no extra garnish with it..... panini was on its own with a bit of coleslaw no extra salad. for the price would of the food would of expected a bit of salad on the plate..... overall the place is clean and service...

I went for coffee and cake on Sunday very disappointed as the staff were extremely rude .. coffee was cold and when asked for it to be warmed was met with a very frosty attitude from the staff .. I also ordered a lemon muffin and staff brought over salted caramel as they had ran out of lemon and when I said I didn’t like salted caramel we again got another frosty look from staff when am sure if they don’t have what you ordered you should be offered an alternative not just given what they decide .. it was also very cold in the coffee shop and also other customers had said the same .. as they had the door open so I closed it and they got angry with me saying the man in the back who washes the dishes is too hot .. as there are plenty of other nice coffee shops in West Kirby I will go to them in future where I will be greeted with staff with better...
