Sat 15th Feb this is our valentines celebration day , so we were both looking forward to a fab meal at the Aurora restaurant. This was our first visit and expected first class food and service. My partner had booked for 7pm , as we arrived they searched for our booking, being unable to find this they then said we had re booked for 5.45 pm ( impossible as we'd still be at work ) , then asked for a reservation number on our email which we provided with proof of a booking for 7pm. We were then told we would have to wait in the bar as no table was available. So we sat down , not an offer to get our drinks we got our own which took a while. Then the same lady from reception came to ask me if I'd made a reservation ....I looked at her thinking we'd spoke to you on reception not 10 mins ago. So for the second time she took the reservation name. She then asked if we'd be ok with eating in the bar, no def not we wanted a proper dining area. ( lots of empy tables ) we were seated 5 mins later in a fabulous booth and order taken , stating that my partner does not like coriander so curry without. First poppadoms and chutney , then ready for our mains , my Tawa arrived 5 minutes later the waiter arrived to say it would be 5 mins till the rest of our meal arrived and took my curry away as it would be cold. Then our plates arrived warm 5 mins later my Tawa / curry arrived for the second time and we asked for warm plates as they'd gone cold. They were replaced with one hot and one cold. Eventually the rest of our food arrived and my partner had ordered a prawn karahi without the coriander but looked more like a korma and yes loads of coriander. By this time we' given up so did the best we could . We asked for water , we were given a jug but no glasses ! Eventually eager to leave feeling let down we asked for the bill and explained about the mistakes in our orders to which the staff were very apologetic . On viewing the bill we noticed a very large service charge . I asked for this to be removed as it's not legal to pay this in the UK esp if you're experience wasn't the best. There was no hesitation in it being removed thankfully. Obviously we won't...
Read moreUP DATE ... The owner has called us and apologised and resolved the matter we have agreed to give them another try. The owner was lovely. Had a cocktail there on the weekend. Harry was great cocktails were great. Decor stunning. So we decided to book for our anniversary. We were so disappointed when we finally got our food it didn't live up to expectations. Then we asked for a dessert menu half hour later we asked again. We ordered dessert then Harry came and apologized ( sarcastically) for not giving us the dessert menu pointed out we commented to another staff member, then bare faced lied and said he was busy in the kitchen we were watching him talking to another member of staff. When we received our over priced dessert we were shocked at the tiny portions. Then we ordered coffee there was a clear change in attitude towards us and coffee basically dumped on table. Eventually a member staff came over dumped the card machine in front of us took the payment of £ 82 for the poor meal we received he then proceeded to grunt at us and walked away. I was shocked at the petulant childish behaviour from the staff because we made a comment that we had waited half a hour for the dessert menu. We left hungry and upset. That's one anniversary I won't forget. Totally ruined. I had high expectations. this place is clearly style over substance. Don't complain even if your in the right because your get even worse treatment. I will never return I've had better food and service at wetherspoons. There are lots of good reviews yes. This experience for us was really bad. Staff shouldn't be rude when you have a justified complaint. We actually didn't even complain we commented we had asked for dessert menu 30 minutes earlier the young waiter repeated what we said and Harry came out and basically challenged us. Busy in the kitchen or not there no reason to ignore your customers. ( He was not in the kitchen) If he had just said sorry I forgot then fair enough we all forget stuff. The young waiter was...
Read moreBooked a table for 13 people to celebrate my 27th birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly faces and shown to a table. The decor throughout is absolutely gorgeous and the cocktails delicious. However, our positive experience ended there. 3 of my party tried to order a fillet steak but were told that there was only sirloin available. After ordering the steaks medium rare they were presented with paper thin frying steaks cooked well done alongside cheap, greasy chips (at a cost of £28). All 3 ordered peppercorn sauce but were given a red wine jus, despite bringing it up to the waiter twice. I had the chicken tikka masala which was bland and tasteless with little meat. 3 people sent meals back and ended up without a meal completely. 1 of our party ordered lamb shanks and by the end of the meal he had still not received his meal. We tried to cancel the lamb as it was no longer wanted - however, the lamb arrived to the table around the time that we asked for the bill.
When the bill came I noted that staff removed 2 x steaks and the cost of my food from the bill which was appreciated. However, we were charged £2 a head for half a poppadom each. Although I thought that this was steep we all decided to say nothing, settle the bill and leave. We all paid and were ready to leave when the waitress insisted that there was still £160 outstanding on the bill to pay. Our friend sat and went through the bill with her to find that we did not owe any money and had in fact overpaid by a few pounds.
It is a huge shame that such a beautiful restaurant with such potential is running this way. Style over substance springs to mind. Sadly, we won’t...
