Got there and we were told a 10 minute wait. The girl was still telling people a 10 minute wait 40 minutes later when we finally got seated. Our server must have known the people 4 table away because she spent almost the entire time we were there at that table. We were asking whoever came by for drink refills Togo boxes etc. It took 15 minutes to get our check after we waited 5 minutes to find someone to go find our server to ask for it. It's no wonder it was a 40 minute wait to get seated with that kind of service. Now let's talk about the health code violation. They should not have been seating any new customers as the restrooms were out of order. In Abilene, Texas, restaurants must have public restrooms available during operating hours unless they are a small take-out/pickup only establishment under 300 sq ft. Restaurants where the public congregates must be equipped with sufficient restrooms, and the Texas Health and Safety Code also requires that if a restaurant has employee restrooms, it must allow a customer with an eligible medical condition to use them if no public restroom is immediately accessible, unless it poses a health, safety, or security risk. General requirements Restaurants must provide public restrooms that are readily accessible to customers and patrons. These facilities must be available during all hours of operation. Exceptions are made for a small take-out/pickup only establishment with a public access area of 300 square feet or less. Restroom access for medical needs Restaurants with employee restrooms must allow customers with a qualifying medical condition (like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or irritable bowel syndrome) to use them if there is no public restroom available. This must be allowed during normal business hours, as long as the employee restroom is not in an area that poses a health, safety, or security risk. Denying access to a customer with an eligible medical condition is a misdemeanor offense in Texas and can result in a fine of up to $100. How to take action If a restroom is closed, first speak with the manager of the establishment to ask why it is closed. If you have a medical condition that requires immediate access, explain that to the manager. You can request to use the employee restroom if no public one is available, and the restaurant must allow it unless a risk is present. If the issue is not resolved, you can contact the local health department. Which I will be going in the morning. They had the west side door of the restaurant propped open with a high chair and water running out the door all over the parking lot. The coke zero we ordered came out as Dr Pepper and to top it off when I finally got our waitress to come to the table with our check I asked to speak with the manager. After waiting 15 minutes fir the manager who never...
Read moreAs longtime Chuy’s fans from Austin, we were beyond excited to try the new Abilene location—and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the energy felt just like the original, and the team here is clearly doing things the right way.
The food was absolutely phenomenal. We started with queso (creamy and addictive), then split the Chuychanga and steak enchiladas—both cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. Our friend ordered the flautas, and they disappeared just as quickly. Everything tasted fresh, nostalgic, and exactly like the Chuy’s we grew up with in South Texas.
The drinks were equally impressive. Shelby, the bartender, made margaritas with the perfect ratio—balanced, refreshing, and dangerously good. Our server Callie was incredible as well: warm, attentive, and on point the entire night. Between the food, the drinks, and the service, the whole experience felt seamless.
It’s rare that a new location captures the heart of an iconic brand, but Chuy’s Abilene nailed it. This isn’t just a Tex-Mex spot—it’s the real deal, the kind of place that makes you want to bring all your friends and family. We left smiling, full, and so glad to know Abilene has a strong Tex-Mex joint that does the original proud.
Keep up the amazing work—this team has absolutely...
Read moreWent on 10/19/25 around 3pm, asked the hostess how long for 2, around 20 mins she said. Ok gave name and number but both of us could barley hear each other over the music playing overhead. Both of us kept saying huh, or say that one more time, we were excited to try this place drove an hour, it took about 10 Mins for us to get the text that out table was ready, we walk back in they seat the couple before us. Still standing there after 4 mins she says yall are next, they are cleaning the table, another 5 go by the other girl to take us to our table got 2 silverware then they say we'll guess the table not ready, give us a min yall are next. Then they got 2 more silverware and sat a table of four then 3, so we stood there another 5 mins then said forget it, I don't see the point of texting your table is ready when it's not. The hostess checking in people as I stood there kept rolling her eyes and said OMG real loud when another large crowd was walking in. They don't have it together yet in my eyes, they are flustered, not a happy greeting either. Maybe we will get to try a month or so down the road when they get the hang of it and I can give a better review bit right now their are still some quirks they...
