Salty Roan absolutely has the best bread and pastries in Abilene! Tired of squishy chemically bread? You've found the real deal. Looking for a real baguette with European texture and taste? This is your place. Looking for sourdough that has actual flavor? This is it. Want a melt-in-your-mouth almond croissant? You got it. After living overseas and in big cities and being spoiled with access to world-class bakeries, I'm so glad these amazing folks have opened up right here in town! I've been coming here a few times a month since they opened; for small business meetings, quick lunches, breakfast dates, coffee dates, and just to pick up loaves of bread to take home. The staff behind the counter are wonderful and always friendly, and the bakers seem to have fun experimenting and giving us new culinary pastry experiences each time we go in. We're lucky to have y'all here! Keep up the amazing work! EDIT: The bacon/egg/avocado toast in the photo was made with their sourdough, and the caviar bites were made with...
Read moreI don’t really understand all the hype. Don’t get me wrong the atmosphere and the display of goodies are certainly exciting. It is very busy, so there will be a small wait. My issues began at checkout, they don’t serve sodas and I am not a coffee, tea, or water drinker. Secondly, the price for what we got was a little to much but ok if the taste was good. My wife really liked the Cowboy Cookie, the sausage and egg croissant was ok had it been hot. It’s was stone cold and hard from being out in the open for a long time. The ham and béchamel croissant could have been good but it was over cooked . The croissant was hard as a rock and the sauce was ice cold. The cinnamon roll was ok, better if it was at least warm, just cold and hard. I wasn’t impressed and probably...
Read moreMy girlfriend brought me to this place and I figured I’d give this review thing a try. Firstly, the ham and cheese croissant was probably the best thing I’ve tasted in a while (10/10). Although lukewarm, it was phenomenal. Secondly, the almond croissant was another 10/10. My gf couldn’t decide if she wanted it and we were blessed to be offered it as a taste test! Thirdly, the cheddar scallion was a good 9/10 with a bold scallion flavor that I enjoyed. Fourthly, bacon potato quiche, I’d give it a 6/10 but I’m a texture person so don’t let that stop you! Last but not least, the bacon egg danish, at this point I was stuffed and I’d still give it a damning 8/10! Couple this with an amazingly friendly/comfortable atmosphere and you’re set for as...
