My wife was recommended to try this place out as people told her it's very good. We got there around mid-morning on a weekday, so it wasn't busy. We were quickly seated at a booth with an adequate amount of room for the two of us.
We both ordered the Tri-fecta from their Classic Favorites. I chose the Multi-grain Pancake, and my wife got the Belgium Waffle. Both come with a choice of meat; we chose bacon, and two scrambled cage-free eggs mixed with cheese. They don't have American cheese, but they offered cheddar. We also ordered coffee, which came with a pot and cups, similar to places like IHOP.
When the food arrived, it was presented well. I tried the eggs first and was a little disappointed that they didn't scramble the cheese with the eggs, as I had asked. Instead, there was a small amount of melted cheese on top of the scrambled eggs, which were a little overcooked. My wife thought they might have used some other type of egg because of the taste, but whatever they used, they were overcooked. The bacon was well-cooked to a crisp and chewy texture. My pancake tasted weird; perhaps it was the multi-grain, but I didn't enjoy it as much as a regular pancake. My wife said her waffle was done well, though I didn't try it to describe it.
The service could have been better. Nothing special about it. She brought out the menus, took our order, brought out the food, and brought the check. There was no other real interaction or suggestions on what to try. She didn't ask if this was our first time there, even though we sure looked like it.
The atmosphere of First Watch was pretty basic; it wasn't too busy or noisy. Although, the place was very clean. There's an area where you can sit with open windows looking out, which I thought was a nice idea. However, it's facing the parking lot and Huntingdon Pike, so there's nothing special to look at.
The prices are above average. I spent around $14 for one pancake, two eggs, and two bacon strips. I had to double-check the bill for how much we were charged for coffee. We spent almost $4 each for a shared pot of coffee, which we only drank one cup each.
I'd recommend giving this place a shot. Maybe some of the other items might be a better experience for you. We aren't sure we will be...
Read moreDavid, the server, took our order and thanked us for making things easy for him. This is the last time we saw him until we asked for a check. Food was served by a lady who never inquired if we needed anything and we had to ask for basic condiments, ketchup etc. I got the Traditional breakfast which is my go to when visiting First Watch establishments and was shocked by the food. Sausage links were cold, not lukewarm, cold. My toast was slathered in a ton of butter, the potatoes were extremely salty and my one (maybe) egg was dry and tasteless. My husband got the eggs Benedict classic and ate it so fast because it was luke warm and honestly we were hungry. When we finally saw the waiter, who noticed right away my plate was barely touched, we asked for the check and told him we had not seen him and had not had waters refilled and the food was cold. He immediately copped an attitude, grabbed the check and said he would go to his manger to see what he could do. All of this was said as he walked away. When he came back, he slapped the check down and said I you 20% off. I tried to tell him we weren’t trying to get anything but I decent meal. He did not care. He was pissed. We did go to the hostess station to pay and the person who took our money didn’t want to hear abut our experience either. Her response was I can get the manager. No thanks, I got $2.59 off of my meal that I didn’t touch. I gave a tip as I know servers live off of this and my conscience would not let me not tip him his $8.31. As now it’s no longer 10% it starts as 15%, 18% plus. Yes, this is a long review, but you need to listen to what’s going on in your restaurant. And David the server needs to know if he wants to be successful in any field, a negative attitude gets you no where. You are in the service industry, act like it or choose another line of work. Management should of came to our table and addressed the issues instead of supposedly offering 20% off with out even knowing why you are...
Read moreVisited a few times. Overall, I like the health conscious choices on the menu. It's hit or miss on whether your dish comes out hot, or not. I feel like it depends on what you get, which shouldn't be the case. Usually, it still tastes good, though. I like the drinks as well. The service is ok, again, depending on who you get. I won't name names, but some waitresses here come off like they're annoyed to be there, let alone serving you. Once, one asked me if I wanted coffee when I was seated. I told her no, but she must have misheard me, as she proceeded to pour it anyway. I let it go to not make it awkward, as I saw it as being no big deal. When she gave me the check, I explained that to her and asked if she could take it off and she gave me an attitude-laced, "sorry about that, I'll take it off," turned around, crumpled up the check and walked away with a face that said it all. Disrespectful, to say the least. I still tipped her anyway, albeit not what I normally would have. They also seem like they can't wait to get you out the door, for some reason. No sooner than when you sit down and just get your food they're handing you the check faster than lightning can strike the ground. "No rush, but here's the check. You can pay up front when your ready," is what they say, but I certainly feel rushed as it seems like I'm on the hot seat after that and they're constantly walking past wondering when I'm going to finally finish my food and leave. I can understand if it's busy and they just need to move quickly, but this seems to be all the time, even when they're half empty. If I'm dining in, there's a 99.9% chance that I'm not in a rush. I came to sit down, enjoy a meal and the atmosphere and take my time doing it. Not to be pressured to leave asap right after getting my food and drink. If I was rushing I would have ordered to-go. Unfortunately, the service here sometimes ruins what would otherwise be a good experience. However, there are plenty of...
