I had the most wonderful evening at Jewel of India – Silver Spring. From the moment we were greeted, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. My server, Rahul, was absolutely gracious, attentive, and accommodating—always checking in just at the right moments, anticipating our needs and offering spot‑on recommendations.
The dining room is warm and inviting, and as the night goes on the lights are softly lowered, creating an intimate, relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for dinner with friends or a date night.
Drinks
Henrick’s Gimlet and Old Fashioned cocktails that struck a flawless balance of flavor and potency—delicious, yet with a real punch.
Sharabi Lassi, creamy and boozy in equal measure, felt like a decadent dessert in a glass.
Appetizers & Small Plates
Chicken 65: Crisp, spicy, and tangy—the perfect way to kick off the meal.
Masala Calamari: Lightly battered rings tossed in fragrant spices—utterly addictive.
Shrimp Pondicherry: Succulent prawns bathed in a rich, coconut‑tomato sauce that you’ll want to sop up with every last drop.
Entrees & Breads
Goat Curry: Tender meat in a deeply savory, perfectly spiced gravy.
Prawn Tikka Masala & Tandoori Prawns: Each prawn burst with smoky, tangy goodness—an absolute highlight.
Vegetable Biryani: Aromatic, colorful, and so satisfying.
Garlic Naan: Pillowy, warm, and flecked with fragrant garlic—ideal for mopping up every sauce.
Dessert
Kulfi Pistachio: Silky‑smooth, nutty, and just sweet enough to finish the meal on a high note.
Every dish was unmistakably authentic, perfectly seasoned, and served with genuine warmth. Rahul’s service tied the whole experience together—prompt, friendly, and professional. Jewel of India easily earns 5 out of 5 stars from me. If you’re in Silver Spring and craving real-deal Indian flavors (plus expertly crafted cocktails), this...
Read moreI am adding another new post because this place is STILL my go-to for the best Indian food around. Been going there steady about once every couple of months for many years now. Just had another amazing meal tonight. The Chicken Xacuti was Fantastic (highly recommended), and the Navratan Korma was great as always. I got something I'd never tried before either (even as a decades-long frequent consumer of Indian food) - the Amisrar Kulcha - bread stuffed with potato, cauliflower and ginger. Excellent! However, the Paratha bread was truly inedible tonight … tough enough to re-sole your shoes with. But all things considered, my tummy and taste buds are quite happy.
I deleted my old negative post because I decided to give this place a second chance after a long hiatus. I don't know what they did in the meantime, but boy have they sure upped their game. If anything, they are even better than they had been way back when they first opened. It's not a fluke or one-off either - I waited quite a while and went there many times before I was convinced they were consistently back on track. And they most certainly are! I especially recommend doing their Lunch Buffet on a Friday: everything is really fresh and constantly replenished, and the selection is awesome. Even my wife's family, who don't care for Indian food, LOVE this place. My 8-year-old niece tried Indian for the first time and gobbled up nearly everything. But lest you think this place is only for tender "newbies" to Indian cuisine, I can tell you as a lifelong fanatic for Indian food that this is the REAL DEAL. My only comment would be that I wish they would make a few of the dishes spicier/hotter. In any case, they are now back in my #1 local spot after a previously serious...
Read moreIt is not the worst place I have had food. Although comparing it with a highway restaurant in the middle of nowhere village in India might not be right.
Granted, Jewel of India restaurant seems clean, however, once you sit down and order food, you notice how bad it is.
Where do I begin? Water they served reaked of cholorine. The glasses they served water in seemed poorly washed.
The dishes: I understand they want to charge $20 per entree - but it has to be eatable. Gobi Machurian was undercooked and our family being a big fan of gobi, ate 1 peice each and left the rest. Yes, it was that bad.
We ordered appetizers - Vegetable Samosa and Paneer tikka. We got 2 Samosas - however, only the outside of it was hot, the inside was cold - not freezing, but cold to eat. They gave us Chutney for dip and it had only 3 spoons - for $9, one would think, they would give enough chutney for 2 Samosas. The Paneer Tikka - we got 3 peices of paneer, hardly more than 1" square for $11. They side / garnish it came with - cauliflower, shredded carrort and 1 slice of cucumber - brough back memories of my visit to Indian hospital when I was a child, the smell of disinfectant.
Malai Koftha and Vegetable Jalfrezi - was terrible, but I would say the Jalfrezi was really bad - there was no sauce and the vegetables were bland.
When they cleared our table is when I noticed that none of the tables had table cloth - they just cleared stuff and wiped it down with a dry cloth.
To summarize - it was the most horrible and disgusting experience I have had in a very long time.
Please stay away from this place - this is NOT Indian food or a safe/good...
