I was delighted to see this recent addition to Hillandale. It gives the adjacent establishments (Chipotle and the Big Greek Café) much-needed competition. I had their signature dish, teriyaki chicken, and an order of California rolls. Both were fresh and tasty, with only slight detractions (the teriyaki a bit oily, and the California rolls slightly lacking the usual characteristic sweetness). The dining area is spacious, with a thoughtful amount of space between a few central tables, and booths lining one wall. The service was friendly and helpful. The food and atmosphere had a certain "soul" to it that is reminiscent of a place like Ben's Chile Bowl, but with a Japanese menu.
Detractions: The sconce lighting consists of very bright white LED fixtures that are harsh and annoying. The nearly-white walls add to the glare. The acoustics are terrible, with no suspended ceiling (as is so common these days in many fast-food restaurants). All the upward utilities were neat and clean, but viewing a bunch of ducts and BX cable just isn't good for ambience. Thankfully, the echo-chamber quality of the space wasn't further degraded by loud music. In fact, the music was actually very subdued, and that is a good thing. (Chipotle needs to take a lesson.)
My advice to the owner(s):
Paint the walls with Benjamin Moore Glamour Pink, catalog number 2006-40. Put a clear coat over it for durability. Pink is a great color for restaurants because it induces a feeling of calm (but it will cause customers to linger a little longer due to its soothing psychological effect).
Replace your daylight-white LED bulbs with ones that have a substantially warmer color temperature, around 2700 degrees Kelvin to 3500K degrees Kelvin.
A suspended ceiling is probably out of the question, but see if you can spray the ducts and other large metal surfaces with an acoustic absorbing material such as International Cellulose Corporation's K13 Sound Absorption Spray, made just for that purpose.
I look forward to trying more dishes here, and recommend this place for anyone looking for innovative fast food at...

I stepped up to the cashier to order beef, shrimp, and veggies, extra shrimp and extra beef. I had to repeat myself about four times because the cashier did not speak English. Another cashier who spoke English a little better took my order. The entrée, along with an order of spring rolls, totaled $20.00. I was a bit taken aback, but this is what I ordered. I noticed the patron ahead of me who was speaking Spanish with the staff and cook received an extra large order, even though she had not paid for extra.
My food seemed fine when I received it. By the time I pulled into the parking garage, approximately 10 minutes later, it was a soggy, dripping mess. Luckily, I sat the bag on paper on my passenger seat because it leaked EVERYWHERE!! I had to put the container in another bag to stop the leaking. In my kitchen, I unwrapped a soggy, dripping MESS!! There was about 2 cups of brown liquid in the bottom of the bag. The veggies were completely soggy. The food was edible, but not really good.
I called the store to report my experience. Lo and behold, non-English speaking girl answered the phone. She kept saying, "Ello, ello, ello" while I was trying to explain the situation to her. I asked to speak with a Manager. I began to explain the issue. The Manager laughed and asked me to bring the food back. I told him I worked all day and am too tired. He suggested coming back tomorrow. I explained that I had to dump the brown, dripping liquid because it was making a mess all over the place. He laughed again. He seemed to be getting a kick out of the entire situation.
I will take the $20.00 loss, but I will never patronize the store again. I guess I would have gotten better service if I spoke another language like the other lady. PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!! It was a waste of...
Read moreI love, love, love this place!! I am so happy that I had a particular taste for Japanese food and this place is what was in my area. I just moved to the Adelphi area and I am so happy this little gem is 5 minutes from my house, also a little scared because of the weight I’m going to gain!! Ha!
Quickway is dine in or take out, you order at the register and watch them work their magic on your order in front of your eyes, Hibachi style. Though it doesn’t come with the traditional show and personal cook, the line cooks are friendly and do smile while doing their job. When the food is topped with your choice of protein (chicken,beef, shrimp or salmon), they ask of you want extra sauce... take the extra sauce! Trust me!!
The food is delicious! In a typical combo it comes with rice (fried or white), protein and your choice to have veggies. The veggies are a perfect compliment to the meal.
They have bottled or fountain drinks, more than enough food for what you pay for. Quick and efficient! It’s a steal!
The restaurant is always clean and staff are...
