As a Hilton HHonors member, my wife and I have come to love Home2Suite hotels. We have stayed at them in Ohio, Indiana, Florida and Maryland. We like them because they are relatively new, built from the ground up (solid), upscale and do not have "cheap" utensils. This Home2Suite stay however was less than expected.
PROS: ALL of the STAFF WERE ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. We had an issue with the initial room that was assigned, 203. a). Whoever was above us seemed to be very noisy. b).The automatic blinds had come out of the track and thus did not work. We called the from desk and they immediately sent maintenance up to look at the issue. Along with maintenance we concluded that we could "make it work" but the solution would be to replace the blinds. Since we had just driven 12 hours we decided to request another room. We went down to the front desk and requested one. The attendant on duty was VERY accommodating. She did not have the same room type on the top floor but we agreed that a tub was not a necessity since we were only going to be there two nights. Thus we took the 5th floor room, 501. Problem resolved. On the day of our departure it was 27 degrees our car was covered in ice. A staff member who was going home stopped an offered to help us remove the ice on our windshields if we needed it. Both my wife and I thought that was WAY above and beyond and just confirmed what I am saying about the staff. Great coffee 24x7 Breakfast is adequate for not being full service. Belgian waffle machines. No eggs or meats. Room was clean and on par with other Home2Suites. Grocery store (Safeway), restaurants, gas stations, 7-11, Starbucks, and other convenience stores are close by.
CONS: The room door did not close fully without assistance. This of course could be a security issue. The noise from the Beltway, 495, was VERY, VERY loud at all times (day and night). This is because 495 being circular is at BOTH ends of the Hotel. In order to avoid this travelers must get a room in the MIDDLE of the hotel. I discerned that x19 is roughly the middle of the Hotel on any floor. The road noise kept up from getting a goods night sleep both nights. Parking seemed to be somewhat limited also.
OVERALL:
I will NOT book this Hotel again if in the DC area. Of all the Home2Suite Hotels that we have stayed this one seems to be a little more worn than the others.
Date of stay: December 2019
Room tip: Rooms in the middle(x19 in about the midpoint on each floor) will be much quieter. Rooms at either end will...
Read moreFront desk & maintenance staff were nice and helpful when needed. Breakfast was good, not overwhelming with options, so it was enjoyable. I was suppose to stay for 39 nights, but ended up staying for 14. On July 12, my (room 426) ac stopped working, the GM did comp me that night. On July 18-20, I again had no working ac all weekend, I was provided a floor fan. Thankfully the first two days were still cool enough, albeit just slowly getting humid in the room. On the 20th, the ac was still out and the room was very humid and was 81 degrees when I finally checked out by 7 pm. Over that weekend, I did ask the front desk if there was any chance I could switch rooms as this was not being fixed and was informed that they would let me know in 20-30 minutes but the hotel was fully booked and sold out. I waited for 3 hours and I received no call. My work colleague also had the room next to mine and it was 82 degrees & extremely humid, in their room no fan given to her. We asked checked out as there was no ETA on when it would be fixed, and were told it would be better for us to check out after midnight as they have to audit for the night and it was 7pm. At that point, that was fine, but my colleague and I still left to an another hotel in order to cool down. I received a call from the GM a day or two later, offered points as a consolation for the inconvenience, but still have not received the points 3 full weeks later. I was offered for the room to be comped but since “your [my] company was paying for it” it shouldn’t make a difference, so I settled for the points which is fine by me. I would’ve loved to stay longer as a member of the military as it was in close proximity to the locations I needed to frequent, but unfortunately this stay left a sour taste in my mouth. Again, the front desk & maintenance staff (especially at night) were so helpful and friendly, and a booked hotel isn’t something they can control, but staying in a room that was getting hotter with no solution given, isn’t something I was willing to do. There is free parking and a laundry area with free machines, which is a huge plus. Rooms were fairly big like a studio, with a fridge, microwave, dishwasher, sink, but no cooktop. Area itself doesn’t have too much, but still not bad overall. This hasn’t taken me off of Hilton properties completely, but just more cautious...
Read moreUnfortunately, this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in a really long time. Although the hotel had great reviews, my husband, dog, and I switched from 3 different rooms from October 4-8th due to being placed in rooms under construction. We checked into the hotel because we’re moving out the country October 9th for a military tour of duty and we had 5 suitcases, food, I’m 8 months pregnant, we had our dog, and we were staying until October 8th. I don’t feel like we received an adequate accommodation after everything we endured especially since management notified us that the first two rooms should’ve never been occupied because they were on an out of service sheet.
The first room we checked into on October 4th around 7:30pm was on the second floor (201) and the room had no AC so they provided a fan, so we asked to switch to a room with AC since I’m pregnant, we have a animal, and it was hot in the room. The same night October 4th, we checked into the second room around 8pm on the 4th floor (425) and this room was 63 degrees upon entry. We tried to adjust the thermostat all night and woke up to 62 degrees. So the morning of October 5th, we spoke to the manager to discuss why the thermostat was not adjusting above 63 degrees, having to switch rooms previously and to be in a room with a working thermostat. We was offered another room on the 5th floor (511) and the $75 pet fee was removed for extreme conditions. We did the walk through of the new room on the 5th floor with working thermostat but realized the water was freezing cold, but assumed that was because it was 10am and everyone was showering. We left the property and returned around 6pm and the shower was still freezing cold and we notified management. They had someone come adjust the water but then we only had boiling hot water with no option of cold/warm water or pressure adjustment. So, another tech had to come up to fix the water around 9pm so we could have hot and cold water. The morning of October 6th we notified management, requested a refund or compensation for having to move to three different rooms over the course of 3 days and still having extreme room issues and the manager agreed to only take of 50% of one night and still remove...
