The sub shop is situated in a neglected plaza and presents a dirty and rundown appearance outside and inside, making it uninviting to customers. The subs are overpriced, with a basic ham and cheese sandwich costing $11, yet only seasoned with salt and pepper. The kitchen staff, consisting of young individuals, appeared more focused on socializing than maintaining proper food hygiene, as I witnessed ingredients being dropped on the floor and subsequently used in orders. The environment was so unprofessional and unsanitary that I left before receiving my paid order. It is concerning how this establishment remains operational under health inspection standards. UPDATE: Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. I understand that feedback can sometimes be challenging to receive. My intention was to provide an honest account of my experience to help improve your business and inform potential customers. I have consistently provided reviews that reflect my personal and true experiences, aiming to help both customers and business owners alike. When I receive poor service or products, I voice my concerns just as I express my praise when I receive good service. Customers can read my reviews and see that I strive to be fair and balanced in my feedback, although sometimes it may come across as a little too harsh due to the frustration of having wasted my hard-earned money. I like to spend my money where I am receiving good value in return. That is the whole purpose of Google reviews. My comments were solely based on the services I received and the areas where I felt improvements could be made. Additionally, I noticed that other customers have reviewed your business in the past few months and have similarly rated the products and services poorly. This suggests that there are recurring issues that need to be addressed. I understand that the current economy can raise difficulties in running a business. However, discrediting a reviewer will not provide a solution. Re-evaluating the reasons behind the review and making necessary changes can lead to improvement and better customer satisfaction, consequently resulting in higher returns for the business. Instead of defending what seems indefensible, I encourage you to consider the feedback as an opportunity to make necessary changes and improvements. Addressing the specific issues raised will not only benefit your business but also demonstrate your commitment to customer satisfaction. I truly wish you all the best with...
Read moreI'm not sure why this happens to my orders, if its the Doordarsh app that doesn't translate well to the restaurant or its the restaurant itself but this is the second time i order from grouchos for delivery and the orders are always messed up (this experience reminded my why i stopped ordering delivery from them in the first place). I ordered the turkey *Turkey Sandwich which specifies comes with bread, turkey, lettuce and tomato on the item description. I added the mayo on it. on the app it gives me the option to remove the lettuce and tomato, but not to keep it, it does say I can add extra of it which I didn't want extra I just wanted what comes with the *Turkey Sandwich itself so I assumed all that is on the description would be added on to it. I'm not sure how to order from this place anymore. now I wanna specify, I like GOING to the restaurant and would go if it wasn't for the fact that i am sick as a dog right now, but their delivery sucks the big one! I literally just got bread, mayo and turkey... and because I'm ill is not like I can go over there and have them fix it or something. needless to say, disappointed and kinda mad..
UPDATE: firstly I want to thank the owner Liz Adams for the quick response in this whole issue and her genuine apology with this issue. It's not a huge issue but it's one that I still appreciate the looking into and steps needed to fix things for the future. Given the situation its not like I can go into the store and have the order amended but she was so nice and offered compensation for the inconvenience which I'm very thankful for because we do like the restaurant, the issue is mainly with the way delivery orders are read which she has made sure will improve for the future to prevent further misunderstanding. I'm adding two extra stars because of this - personally, I love food so good food is important to me but also customer care speaks volumes of a location and I do feel heard and appreciated and the apology goes...
Read moreTL;DR: The food is good, but the interior could use some love.
Outside: The parking lot is very large as it seems that all the other places that shared the large strip mall with it have since gone out of business or have weird hours. It has a bit of an urban decay feeling on the outside and in the parking lot. Make sure to go in the door on the right, as the one on the left leads to part of the seating area and not the register.
Inside: The decor severely needs an update. Walls are hand painted, which was a nice local establishment look in the 90s, but not anymore. There is various memorabilia from the nearby USC Aiken sports teams on the walls, but its not enough to give the place a local bar feel, just enough to let you know there is a college nearby. Chairs are old and a bit torn in parts. There is plenty of seating on the inside with varying table sizes.
Food: I ordered the pastrami and it was good. The bread was toasted but not warm so that was kinda weird. The waitress should have specified that when ordering. Sandwiches come with a bag of house chips, which are kettle style chips. Chips are fine, nothing special. It is a little tacky that anything you substitute for chips is an upcharge though. Including brand name chips. Menu has plenty of sandwiches on offer, and I'd recommend a hot sandwich. I believe that's the best value if you are eating in, or taking out somewhere it will still be warm.
Staff: Seemed like the location was understaffed when we went in Feb. 2022. Only one waitress for 8ish tables so it took a while to get our food. It was also unclear if you ordered at the counter or from the waitress. We ended up awkwardly finding out it was from the waitress when we tried to take some menus. Cashier seemed a bit confused when we tried to split the check at checkout, but he seemed new. Staff was friendly despite the...
