If you’re looking for a charming, cozy, and delicious breakfast or brunch spot in Aiken, Polo Grounds Café is a must-visit. Nestled just off the main road but still easy to find, this hidden gem offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Whether you’re meeting friends, enjoying a solo coffee, or bringing a book and soaking in the sunshine, this café has you covered.
The crepes and French toast (only offered on the weekend) are absolutely divine. Hearty, rich, and packed with flavor, these aren’t your average light brunch options—they’re satisfyingly indulgent in the best possible way. The French toast in particular is thick-cut and perfectly golden, with just the right balance of crisp edges and soft, custardy middle. Topped with fresh berries and syrup, it’s a treat that feels like a warm hug on a plate. The crepes are equally impressive—delicate and tender, yet stuffed full of sweet or savory goodness, depending on your mood. My favorite is the El Presidente!
They also offer a full range of specialty coffee drinks that go way beyond your standard cup of joe. Whether you prefer a classic latte, a frothy cappuccino, or something more creative with flavored syrups and seasonal ingredients, the baristas here know what they’re doing.
The atmosphere is also worth mentioning. Inside, it’s warm and welcoming, with a laid-back vibe that makes you want to linger. Outside, the café really shines—there’s something so peaceful about sipping a coffee surrounded by the gentle buzz of conversation, a breeze in the air, and a stunning array of gorgeous plants. The greenery adds such a refreshing and calming touch to the space, making it feel more like a garden oasis than a typical café patio.
In short, Polo Grounds Café is a beautiful blend of comforting food, delicious drinks, and serene ambiance. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Aiken, this café is well worth the stop. Come hungry, leave happy—and maybe a little full....
Read moreThis is my third time coming here. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the food is good. I am really glad to see somewhere that offers so many gluten free options. All the plants and surrounding decorations are so pretty.
I do have one complaint though that really ruins the whole experience for me and the reason our family probably won’t go back. Every single time I have come to this cafe I have experienced the man who cooks things (I think this is the owner?) is quite rude and hasn’t been friendly. My daughter commented the same thing as well. Today was a special day for my daughter and I and we are both gluten free so we chose this cafe to take our little family to for breakfast. We were met with irritation that we had 6 people in our party. He rolled his eyes and grunted like it was a huge inconvenience. We tried coming as soon as they opened hoping to not cause tension because I know it’s small. Already feeling unwelcomed, I tried to find a table and was snapped at by him and told to go to the back. Even my husband was surprised at the rudeness and irritation from this man. This is the third time we have been met with a less than friendly attitude from him. Kind of put a downer on the whole breakfast and special day. When we got home even my son said something about the guys rudeness. Such a bummer because this cafe would be one of our favorites but we...
Read moreTried this place for the first time, very cute on the outside, reminded me of my grandmother's home growing up. It's not clear upon entering whether you are to be seated or seat yourself, so I asked. The chef answered rather annoyed at the question, so I assume he is the owner. The customer service did not improve from there. Having my 3 year old with me, he became interested in a tin off the mantle and politely set it back down on some books after I asked him not to play with it. This was while I was at the counter placing our order. The young woman taking my order stopped me abruptly, whispered to the other young woman who seemed just as confused as me, only to go around to the front to put the tin box back on the mantle. I do not understand why that was so important she had to stop me from placing the order. The attitude of her and the chef was enough not to warrant returning. If my son had been loud or impolite, there would be some justification but he did very well, used polite language, patiently waited near me, sat in his chair, he was wonderful. Why own a restaurant when you don't like people? Food costs are high...
