On 01/04/2022 I visited the North Augusta location. When I entered, I noticed that the trashcans near the restrooms were overfilled and there was some trash on the floor. As I approached the counter to place my order, there was a sign that stated "due to supply chain and staffing issues some items may no longer be available". One of the items that are being removed are kids meals, because I mean, I guess 2 chicken tenders or a chicken leg is too much to ask from an establishment that already cooks these in adult sized portions. I could see if the portions were pre packaged, but they aren't. Okay, no big deal. I ordered a 4pc chicken strips with double mac and cheese for my 7 year old, a 4 vegetable plate with lima beans, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and black eyed peas for my dad, and 4 chicken strips with macaroni and cheese and green beans for myself. I had to get rock hard corn muffins with these as biscuits are also being removed, and they were out of rolls. The time stamp on my receipt was 5:40pm. At 6:10pm I had still not received my food, so I went to inquire about it and was informed that there were no chicken strips down and it would still be a few minutes as they had to cook. As a former wife saver employee, I am well aware that cook times on these are a max of 7 minutes and that includes the time it takes to place them in the buttermilk wash, drop them in the flour, and cook them. This is totally unacceptable service for this restaurant, as I know the standards that are set forth are far higher than this. I will not be visiting this restaurant anymore in the future, and this was, at one point, the only one I would go to as it was closest. The amount of unhappy customers in the building tonight was ridiculous. Wife Saver has got to do better, because if I had a wife just the service i received tonight would have killed her. Nothing about this visit was...
Read moreThis particular Wife Saver has character, meaning it is old, perhaps the first, maybe opened in 1965 if I were pulling "the clues" together correctly. I prefer this old type charm much better than the ultra modern look in newer fast food restaurants these days. This place was very clean even in its old age... ;-) Now, what gets me about any of the Wife Saver restaurants is how spot on they can be with the chicken, including livers and gizzards, vs. how sometimes they aren't to a level where you don't finish the chicken part of the meal. Not sure if it is due to "more used" frying oil or whatever else, but there is a very noticeable difference. Enough to where based on one meal/catering I'd recommend highly to all, and other times(same restaurant) I'd tell folk to seek somewhere else to eat. This chain has "southern home-cooked food" but served up in a fashion of quickness like all the fast-food chains. Yesterday's chicken here was so-so, but the sides were very good. So, if you go as a first-timer, and if you are somewhat disappointed on the first visit, give them a second chance... When they are spot-on, they win hands down over the other chicken based fast-food...
Read moreI hadn't been to Wife Saver in years. I pretty much forgot all about them. They started to close many of them in the area and we are now left with only a few of them to dine in. I went back here on a Sunday night. It was pretty busy that night. Several people came in to order and dine in. I understand why many people patronize this business because the food is pretty good. My mother had dined at Wife Saver a few days earlier and the chicken livers were the bomb!!!! I had to come a get a plate for myself. The employees that were taking orders were very enthusiastic and happy to serve. I ordered the 6 piece fried chicken livers dinner. It came with two sides, which were macaroni and broccoli and cheese casserole, and bread. The livers themselves were huge. They looked like two livers put together. I definitely wasn't mad about that!!!! The macaroni and cheese needed just a wee bit of salt but the broccoli and cheese casserole was just right. I liked it a lot. I have to try the chicken again next time because I use to really like their chicken. I have to now add this restaurant on my favorite...
