Great Garden — Restaurant in Akron

Great Garden? More like Great Value! I love this place, it's my go to Chinese restaurant in the Tallmadge area. It's been hard to find good Chinese food in northeast Ohio since moving from southwestern Ohio, and while I can't say it's better than the shop in my hometown, I can say with certainty you'd be hard pressed to find a better tasty bang for your buck on this side of the state. Great Garden serves big portions for a small price; I've literally had my 13 dollar super special have to be stapled shut because it's so jam packed with food. Taste wise, I would describe Great Garden as "elevated mall Chinese food". It's that nostalgic sweet spot for me, but better executed than typical mall food. The building exterior is more than a bit rough, but what building isn't around that part of town? What matters most is the employees are always friendly and they serve great food. What's not to love? The service is very fast as well.

Some of my favorite menu items are the steamed dumplings (the dumpling sauce is delicious 😋), the teriyaki chicken sticks, and the egg rolls. I'm not usually an egg roll person, but theirs have just the right ratio of cabbage and pork. I also really appreciate how many options they have for their lo mein, including plain. It makes it a great place for picky eaters since the noodles are so customizable.

They also always have coupons on their website where if you order a certain dollar amount, they give you something for free. I usually order enough to get a free can of soda.

10/10 nothing but good things to say about this place. Hopefully one of these days they can get their parking lot...

I ordered online. I didn’t receive a confirmation email and about 45 minutes had gone by. I called to see if my order was on the way. A man answered the phone and before getting any information from me at all just said he didn’t have an order. He then said I ordered from the wrong website. When I tried to say I ordered from the correct website he then said I called the wrong number, I must be trying to call a different restaurant. I couldn’t even get a full sentence in before he would just interrupt me again. I ended up hanging up and just ordering pizza. He then called me back about 10 minutes later and said they found my order, the ticket had just been sitting there for an hour and they didn’t see it. I told him I ordered from another place already and before I could finish the sentence he said, “cancel order cancel order!” He never apologized for telling me I was wrong and ordered from the wrong website or called the...

The lady didn't speak very clear English and had a difficult time understanding me. We all got sick after eating it though, including the dog. I don't know what's up with that! I did place my order an hour before closing so maybe some of the food we received wasn't fresh. This was my first time going there for a year because the chicken we received was absolutely horrible, we couldn't even chew through it and there was tons of fat and chunks of bone! I think they gave us the meat at the bottom of the barrel. They used to be so good but I fear those days are long gone!
