Hunan 2 switched ownership several months ago and the quality of the food went down a bit with the new kitchen staff, but they seem to have found their rhythm now and are back to serving flavorful food. The employees are polite and generally do their job well. I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons: The last two times we went their got our orders wrong. The last time the dish wasn't even close to correct; they served my husband "chow mein" with NO noodles. I know chow mein, and "mein" itself means noodle. I don't know what they gave him, but it was basically beef and tons of onions instead of anything resembling chow mein. The other reason is that they have a bit of a problem with their music. So far we've heard annoying pop, rap, metal, and some actually pleasant classical music. At one point the music was so loud we could barely hear each other talk. We asked to be moved to a table farther away from the speaker and instead the waitress offered to turn the music down, which we accepted. It was still a bit loud and unpleasant, but at least not deafening. I am hopeful that they are working out their problems in that area, though, considering the pleasant classical piano playing during our last visit. Hunan 2 also does take out and is very prompt in making the food, generally having it ready about 15 minutes after placing the order. Overall, a good restaurant that is still working out some kinks after...
Read moreComing to this restaurant was not a good experience in the slightest. We came with my grandmother to celebrate my father's birthday, and the service was horrible and the food was sub-par. When we were seated, nobody came to take our order for 20 minutes, despite us being the only patrons in the entire restaurant. The waitress brought us drinks, took our order, and was generally very apathetic and rude throughout the entire encounter. Another group came in and were seated shortly after, and got their food at the same time my grandmother and father did. But my food? It took another ten minutes to get. We tried to flag our waitress down by saying "excuse me ma'am?" and her immediate response was "It's coming," without even looking at us or coming over to the table. When the food came out, it was lukewarm, and not what I had ordered. I ordered pepper steak, and what I was given definitely was NOT pepper steak. The fried rice was bland and had no flavor, the steak was tough and chewy, and the sauce it was in made it and the onions/peppers it was with very slimy and added no flavor or texture. Not a damn bite of pepper in the entire dish.
The only reason I'm not giving one star is the environment was pretty, despite our waitress repeatedly vacuuming while we were trying to have a...
Read moreWe ordered takeout on 2-1-21. We ordered 2 egg rolls, 2 hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef, and sesame chicken. I came in to pick up our order and there was no one at the register. The lady in the back yelled something when she saw me and a literal child (9-10 years old ) sprang to the register to take my payment. I got the order home and the soup was equivalent to any other restaurant but my Mongolian beef was terrible. Every piece of meat was crunchy with fat and became inedible after a few bites. The sesame chicken wasn’t any better with some sort of crunchy/slimy piece in each bite. This place used to be good but quality has dropped considerably. I wouldn’t recommend this place. The only reason we went here was because Tao Asia in Pelham was closed on the day we wanted to order. I cannot emphasize enough the low quality of meat and vegetables that we received in this order. We will not be back and recommend you go...
