I came to the Hungry Crab in honor of Mardi Gras. Growing up on the Gulf Coast, I always did a huge boil for Mardi Gras, but since I came to Orlando, I couldn't find a place within the first few years, and then gave up. Well, I try and better myself every year, and this year I said no more! I was going to find a place for my hot, spicy seafood. I did some research, and decided to give this relatively new Hungry Crab location a try.
Well thank goodness that I did. This place was incredible. The inside was very interesting, because it's nestled in the skeleton of an old Chinese buffet, but that left plenty of room for huge pirate ships and giant statues of Johnny Depp. Very cool space inside.
Service was great. The mix 'n' match nature of the menu had us asking a lot of questions, but our server helped us navigate our way to the correct answer. That, and they kept the refills of excellent sweet tea coming the whole time.
As for the food, oh man, it was very good. I forgot exactly what the menu item we ordered was called, but it was a combo meant for two people. It was moderately spicy boiled crab legs, shrimp, crawfish, clams, and mussels, along with some corn and potatoes as accoutrements.
The seafood was all cooked pretty good. I want to go out of my way to say that almost all the boiled seafood I have had in Orlando, cough or Melbourne cough, ever has been severely overcooked. If you're an offending seafood owner and are reading this, please call up Hungry Crab and figure out what they're doing differently than you.
Anyway, it was cooked good, it was seasoned good, and there was just the perfect amount of spicy, garlicky butter at the bottom of the bucket for you to sop up with the corn, the potatoes, whatever you want. So good.
Overall, so this place is just dynamite. Maybe it's a chain, but they're a chain and other places are not for a reason. I plan on coming here every Mardi Grad...
Read moreI ate at the restaurant 2 days ago and it was fantastic, so great that I brought 8 guests with me to eat there again tonight. However tonight we were not so lucky! We had the unfortunate luck to get James as a server. The tables around us turned over 3 times while our meal took over 3 hours. The meal would have only been 2 hours but the server never brought the check and the person we asked to find him could not locate him either. 45 minutes later he came to the table and it took him 10 minutes to separate the bill while he sat in my seat and I was left standing. Then another 15 minutes to ring up the checks. We asked to see the manager and she came over to the table and proceeded to tell us we had only been at the table 1 hour and 45 minutes and she also said she had been by several times to check on us which was not accurate as she came by only once when we first got the food. No one apologized for the wait we had to endure, which would have been fine if they had brought the next order of drinks we ordered and refills for the other beverages but they did not. The waiter got rude when we inquired about where he had ran off to and why they could not locate him. Long story short bad service and manager did not care. The main courses were good but the appetizers were not the fried pickles were greasy mush and the crab bites were cold in the middle the hush puppies were good though I would have still came back just for the food but the rudeness of the server and manager will...
Read moreIf I can give this place a negative one I would. The crabs are so small they weren't even worth eating I ordered 12 of them and left none of them in the pan. The potatoes were so hard they weren't even worth eating. The eggs were The only thing Worth eating and if we had to pay $4 for those extra as we did they could have stayed in the chicken far as I'm concerned. Spending this kind of money I could have went out and caught my own crabs not to mention but my own eggs cut up two corns made it equal to four and potatoes hard enough to hit somebody upside the head and become unconscious. I do not recommend you take your family here unless you want to give your money away. I'm from Maryland where crabs come from and we should ship some down here in order for y'all to have a good time because this is not it! Save your money take your family out go crabbing on your own season of the way you like so that you're much more happier. It's not allowing me to show pictures because I'm sure they don't want people to see but I do see some pictures but it's not letting me do it save your money! WE ASKED THE YOUNG LADY IN THE FROIF THE CRABS WERE BIG ENOUGH AND NO ONE KNEW. NOT EVEN THE COOK WHO CAME OUT AND ASKED WITH AN ATTITUDE OF WE WANTED THEM BUT MY GUY ALL SEE THE BEST ON THINGS AND NOT SAY ANYTHING BUT IF I WOULD HAVE PICKED IT UP THEY WOULD HAVE SURE BEEN GIVEN UP THAT REFUND!.GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK OR REPLACE WHAT...
