Came to Hayashi for the first time tonight. The interior is so cute. They did a nice job remodeling the space and making it feel very Japanese. The staff is very nice and pretty attentive. The hostess was also the waitress so it took a little while to get our order in but we appreciated not being rushed. The late hours are phenomenal because you don't feel like you have to hurry up and eat if you're having a little bit later of an evening. The food was presented well. Yhe pineapple tempura was very different but tasty and would've been perfect with the ice cream at the end. The Baby Lobster Roll was a bit too 'fishy' for me but my friend thought it might be the unagi sauce because I like lobster and crab so it didn't make sense why I couldn't eat it. We loved the V8 rolls! They were super good and the Volcano Rolls were also super good. The sauce in the bowl was the star! It was soooo good! The complimentary ice cream at the end was very good. It was light and refreshing. The only thing I am not a fan of is the tip calculator on the bill. It is calculating based the total, not the subtotal, and there's no reason to tip the tax. Other than that, we look forward to returning. Oh and the sparkling sake was...

Ordered my food "To Go", but the restaurant had Japanese charm to it

After living in SF in the 70s/80s/90s, finding good tasty Japanese food was never a problem and a good Bento Box was always easy to come by. Having moved to the East Bay in 1998, it has become much more challenging until today! As I was driving away from the Alameda Landing area towards Park Street, in Alameda, I realized I really wanted a Beef/Tempura/Sushi Bento Box, so I decided to pull over and Google what i wanted and the first place that came up was Hayashi Japanese Cuisine, on Park St., so I called them to make sure they had what I wanted - they did, so I took a chance on them and I was more than delighted. The tempura had a light touch to it and the beef was seasoned well AND NOT TOUGH to chew. I truly enjoyed it and now have a place to go whenever I crave Japanese...

This was one of the worst sushi experience from food and service standpoint. I've been to hundreds of sushi restaurants and I can confidently say this is definitely one of the worst.

I had to ask server three times if we could order our food. The server said okay and never came back. When he walked pass by, we ask again and he says okay and he never showed up again. He seems off or something. We finally got a hold of someone else and got our orders in after multiple attempts.

Also food is not good and wayyy too overpriced. Raw sashimi based rolls are not bad but don't order crab shell based or unagi or scallop based rolls. It was way too much rice and no fish. Way too saucy and that was absolutely overpriced and distasteful.

I would never come back here. Also forgot to mention it smells...
