I went to Sushi House last night, for the first time in years. I used to eat there regularly, but moved. away. I have been dining there for 20ish years though. I waited 30 mins for them to seat me, I was dining alone. The host sat me at the bar...but the bar seats were open the entire time. They just let me sit there, waiting... Then they sat me by the door to the back, dumpsters and outside area, where the staff was going in and out, and it was 40 degrees outside, and the restaurant is right on the water, so I was freezing. The ENTIRE bar was empty, they could have say me anywhere along it, but put me right beside the pneumonia hole...
The food was awful. I got a bento box with Tuna sashimi and California Rolls. The rolls were awful, and the Tuna just was not fresh at all. It was the worst sushi I have ever had. What I'd expect at a truck stop in Nebraska, not in the Bay Area. Then I placed a to-go order for my wife so I could bring her home some rolls. I waited 35 more minutes for them to bring the rolls to me. I finally got someone's attention and she brought them. Apparently they had been sitting on the counter the whole time while my server ignored me. I am a very easy going customer, and a big tipper...sometimes up to 50% if I like the service. This was the first time I stiffed a server in my life. The host was rude, and looked on me with disdain from the moment they called me to seat me. The server was 100% not paying attention to their job in any way. The managers seemed burnt out, like they need a different job. As I was getting my things together to leave one of the "chefs" sneezed, and it was 3 quick sneezes in a row. They didn't even consider trying to cover their mouth and nose, and I watched the sneezes spray all over the food. Even the other chefs were appalled. And they had quite a bit to say to him, things you shouldn't say in front of customers (they assumed I don't speak Spanish). All in all, my dinner last night at Sushi House was one of the worst dining experiences of my entire life, and I am 48, so there's been plenty. As a former chef myself, all I saw was unprofessionalism and the ignoring of basic food safety and restaurant standards. The very not-fresh Tuna sealed the deal (along with the sneezing all over the food they were preparing) and I will never be returning to Sushi House again. A customer of around 20 years, who used to love your restaurant...way to go guys! Great Job! I tried to send them an email, but they have no contact info available anymore. Which is also telling. Rude staff, terrible food, unsafe food handling, and not-even-close-to-fresh tuna all made for a Zero Star dining experience. Avoid at all costs if you value your health. Don't expect to be treated with even a modicum of respect, no matter how much you're spending. Great views of the Bay and a prime location are about all they have going for them now. And this is an absolute shame. They used to be good, and at least slightly friendly. I have dined at Michelin rated fine dining establishments that treated me like a king and were super friendly...and now I have eaten at a total sleaze hole that treats their guests with disregard, disdain, and contempt. Get over yourselves Sushi House. You were never fine dining to begin with. No reason to act like a bunch of Gordon Ramseys when your food is inferior to the McDonald's across the...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting Sushi House on a bustling Friday evening, and while there was a waiting list, it truly speaks to the popularity and demand for this delightful establishment. Although we patiently waited for approximately 30 minutes, I can confidently say that such a wait is a testament to the restaurant's exceptional offerings. I can imagine that the wait times are much shorter during the middle of the week, making it an ideal time to visit.
Once we were finally seated, the attentive staff promptly took our order, ensuring a seamless dining experience. Our selection included three delectable sushi rolls: the Bay Scallop roll was an absolute masterpiece, as it delicately melted in my mouth, leaving an unforgettable impression. While the Chunky and Marine Boy rolls didn't quite reach the same level of perfection as the Bay Scallop, they were still enjoyable and exhibited the restaurant's commitment to quality.
In addition to the sushi rolls, we also tried the seafood udon, which, although not the best I've ever had, was undeniably good. The flavors were satisfying, and it complemented the overall dining experience nicely. Moreover, the tasteful decor of the restaurant added an extra layer of ambiance, enhancing the atmosphere and making our visit truly memorable.
As for the beverage mishap, I originally ordered a Diet Coke but was served a Coke Zero instead. Despite the minor mix-up, I didn't mind as the inviting ambiance and the anticipation of our flavorsome dishes overshadowed any inconveniences. The staff remained courteous throughout, further contributing to the enjoyable atmosphere.
Overall, my experience at Sushi House was a delightful one. From the superb Bay Scallop roll to the pleasing seafood udon, each dish showcased the culinary expertise of the restaurant. Coupled with the charming decor and attentive service, it's evident that Sushi House is a hidden gem worth exploring. I eagerly anticipate my next visit, where I can relish in their culinary...
Read moreLet me start with, I really enjoy the food at sushi house. I’ve only been eating here for the past two years, my partner, however grew up in Alameda and has been going to this restaurant since she was 15 years old she’s 40, and she loves it.
Unfortunately, the service is getting two stars today. What happened? While doing some shopping at South Shore we ordered our normal order to go, shortly after I placed it over the phone my partner changed her mind and decided we would have time to eat there and she would prefer that. We rushed over and walked in 20 min early from the time we were told our food would be ready. I asked if we could sit down and eat the food there. There were plenty of tables since this was post the lunch rush, so I thought they could plate the dishes instead or at the least we could just use the table, order drinks and eat there.
Apparently, this can’t/won’t happen. The host said no because they are”different”. When I asked for further understanding, there was nothing they could provide except no, they are different. This seems crazy as I was going to be buying more food and product by sitting down at a table. What’s the difference of eating it in the car vs. the table while making more money and the tables are empty? This seems like the host or staff simply didn’t want to do something they consider “extra work” so they simply said no. Lack of minor accommodations won’t get far in the service industry. Where’s the hospitality? I understand the policies and why in a busy time, you can’t make that accommodation. However the restaurant is empty and this isn’t an unreasonable request. With a little more hospitality and flexibility, this review would be very different. This is why I’m giving 2 stars...
