A couple of weeks ago my daughter from out of town wanted to have lunch at Charlie's before she had to go to the airport after having visited family for a week. Long story short after receiving our meals we noticed they prepared her the wrong meal. When she went up to the counter to explaine what happened the cashier automatically became defensive and started to argue with her. I also noticed one of the chef's shaking his head when he heard of the mix-up and went back into the kitchen. I was shocked and upset about how rude this cashier was treating my family. My daughter is a very calm, cool, and patient person. Not at all argumentative and mentioned to the cashier that was getting louder and kept correcting my daughter, that perhaps she got confused since everyone was so busy that day which she understood but this cashier proceeded to yell at her in front of the whole restaurant and actually cut my daughter off by taking an order on the phone instead of working this situation out in a friendly matter. Even after concluding her take-out order, as my daughter stood there patiently waiting, the cashier kept insisting that my daughter was wrong. I can't believe the audacity of this employee and no one said anything to her to correct her appalling behavior towards a customer. My daughter was the only one apologizing when it should of been the other way around. How does this restaurant stay in business with these kinds of personalities at the front counter? I have been a faithful patron of this restaurant since the 90's and after this incident, I will nor will my huge family ever step foot in there again. Anywhere else, in Anchorage has better Customer Service than...
Read moreWe finally got a chance to try Charlie’s Bakery, and they didn’t disappoint.
It’s not always easy to find Chinese food that perfectly matches your preferred style of cooking, but Charlie’s Bakery hit the mark for us.
Everything we tried was just awesome. We had the Sesame Chicken, spicy wontons, pot stickers, chicken chow mein, white rice, and house fried rice.
The sesame chicken was a standout. It was incredibly crispy—cue the happy dance—and bursting with flavor. The spicy wontons were a new experience for us, but we thoroughly enjoyed them with a side of vegetables. They had a satisfying heat that paired well with the tender wonton wrappers. The pot stickers were equally impressive, featuring a great filling with just the right amount of crisp on the bottom. Even their chili oil was a pleasant surprise; we've had some bad experiences with chili oil in the past, but this one was spot on.
The white rice was perfectly sticky, or maybe we imagined it because we were so excited about our meal. The house fried rice was made exceptionally well, with a surprisingly smoky flavor and generous portions of pork and shrimp. The chow mein was the last dish that was made just right.
The facility itself was modern and clean, providing a comfortable dining atmosphere. The service was decent, and although the prices were a bit high, it’s something we expected in Alaska.
We didn’t get any desserts this time, but we will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Charlie’s Bakery has won us over, and we can’t wait for...
Read moreReally great food but had a bad experience. My bf orders here at least 3 times a week. In fact when he calls they already know his name without them asking. He ordered duck early on a Saturday as they run out of duck pretty fast. He was out in Wasilla so he let them know I was to pick it up. I was across town and didnt pick it up right away but thought nothing of it. They know him and its early. Theh close at 8:30 PM. I went there around lunchtime. When I said I'm here for pickup and said who it was for, the lady at the register's eyes widened and said they had sold the duck and had no more. I said "you guys never made his order"? Oh no, they had.. but since it wasn't picked up within the hour they sold it and were out of duck she said. "So let me get this straight. You made the order, put it into the styrofoam box to-go and because I didn't pick it up within the hour you took it out of the box and sold it to another patron"?! "YES". Mind you, my bf is a regular and has ALWAYS picked up his order! I could maybe understand if if was near closing and he wasn't a regular but this isnt the case. I dont even know why they chose to do this besides maybe someone they know and like wanted the ducm and they were out besides that? Whatever the reason for them is not ok with me. It's really messed up! So next time you order you can wonder is this fresh or out of someone's to-go box! Thanks for nothing Charlie's...
