3.75 out of 5 rating. Stayed for nearly a week. I want to start by saying it’s “very budget and basic” so if you have a problem with that, this is not the place for you. Staff: only interacted with John, who checked me in and gave me a room tour. He was a very nice man and made me feel welcome. Room: basic but had everything I needed. Bed was decently comfortable. The pillows and blanket were very clean and fresh. Large flatscreen tv. They did provide Netflix streaming which was nice as no local tv was provided. Bathroom was clean and shower was nice. Good water pressure and got hot quick. Toilet was weird the first night and overflowed everywhere so that was a minor issue. Room had a fridge/freezer combo. Fridge was clean but freezer looked a tad dirty. No microwave which would have been nice but not a deal breaker. Some things were dusty and could tell hadn’t been wiped down for some time. Overall, everything was clean. No bugs was a plus! WiFi: WiFi was terrible to be honest. It was slow and barely worked the entire time. The last couple days, it had gone out for most of the day and night. My phone didn’t like to work in the room either. Streaming from the tv was not possible without internet. Clientele/Area: I did notice some strange activity the first night I was there. It was apparent what they were up to. Thankfully, it’s the only time I saw something. I had a rental car and it was perfectly safe. It is midtown so you do have some unhoused around but it wasn’t bad by any means. It was close to stores and easy to get everywhere I needed. For the price I paid, I was very happy with my stay. I do require a working phone and WiFi so if I was to stay again, I would hope those would work. It made it a bit difficult. A pretty good stay overall. I would consider again if the price was right.

We had a shocking experience with Qupqugiaq Inn, which included fraud, safety and security concerns. We have serious concerns about its suitability to operate as a tourism business. Despite being told our late arrival of 10.30pm would be OK, we arrived at 10.30 to find a queue of other people were also trying to check-in. They had been waiting over half hour with no staff present and no responses to phone calls or emails. After 11pm three individuals who appeared to be highly affected by drugs, entered the property without any explanation or apology. At least one of these was a staff member who slurred her way through checking us in. Fraudulently we were allocated to a standard room on the street, despite us paying for a superior room. The door lock was broken, windows not safe and electronic door access not working. Outside there were several people sleeping rough. We did not feel safe to complain. Our full payment for the room had been taken months before our arrival, and we had no option of alternative accommodation at this time of night. We jammed a chair under the door knob to prevent someone breaking in, as it appears the door had been previously kicked in. Thankfully we were OK by the morning. When we went to check out at 9.30am the next morning, the reception door was locked and a chair was placed across the door to prevent anyone coming in. Other rooms were also inside the property, therefore people had no way to exit the property. I contacted the hotel, detailing my complaint and was issued with part refund. I'm very concerned about the security and safety of this property, and the fraudulent activity of not being given what we had already prepaid for.

29F Solo traveler - Felt fairly safe I booked this place a little last minute for one night, after a missed flight connection moved my plans around. John reached out to me to confirm my reservation and share the information I needed to know about the front desk hours and checking in. When I arrived, I was greeted by a very nice lady at the front desk (I'm sorry I didn't get her name). She showed me my room and handed me a key, as well as an electronic key card to access the building through the back door for the periods of time when the front desk is closed. The door to my room gave directly onto the street, and the key was just a regular key. The lock didn't seem very sturdy, and I wished there was a deadbolt for extra safety, or some sort of electronic key card lock. The door to the room was definitely minimal, which made me feel a little uncomfortable at first. However, the room was cozy and really cute, with a very local style, and most importantly, it was clean. The bed was comfortable, and I particularly loved the rainfall shower; the water temperature was very hot, which was amazing. There was a parking in the back, and free coffee. The hotel is located on a busy road, so it does get quite loud with cars and trucks, but it gets quieter later in the night. Overall, the staff was welcoming and polite, the place was really cute, and conveniently located, and the room was clean and comfortable. Check out was easy, just drop your keys in the box at the front desk, grab some coffee, and get on your way. I would consider staying here for one night again if I'm back in Anchorage.
