As a local family owned restaurant, Picnic Pizza has been a favorite for over 40 years, going all the way back to when the first restaurant opened in the Albany Mall (mid 1970s?). While the locations have changed over the years, I think the food has ALWAYS been good.
The food: I have never had a bad meal at Picnic Pizza...it is quite simply always great. Having lived and worked in Italy myself for a couple of years, I can state with confidence that Picnic Pizza is the closest you can get to authentic Italian pizza in the Albany GA area.
The service: Our server last night was very attentive and a joy to speak with. As always, service was prompt and friendly. Our order was fresh and delivered accurately.
The atmosphere: The restaurant is in a strip mall. It is a basic, functional restaurant with clean restrooms. This is the one area I think Picnic Pizza could improve upon. While it is clean and roomy, the restaurant itself is not a setting that I would call "inspiring" when it comes to appearance. Bottom line... not a romantic setting for a date night, but if we are hungry and just looking for great food, Picnic...
Read moreGreat food, wonderful staff. However, I had to wait entirely too long for spaghetti to go. And they forgot my salad. I called in during the storm, waited 20 min, went to pick up, and waited at least 20 more min bc they also had a large catering type order called in. Half of my order was ready already. Other than that, it's great every time.
Update 11/2022 Still fantastic food. I call in to go a lot and it's usually ready when I get there. As long as I've waited the 25-30 min, I can usually count on it being ready. If it's not, it's ready soon after. Everybody is always friendly. Always. And helpful. They'll bring it out you the car for you if you need (my husband uses a cane, but crutches currently, so he needs help sometimes). And our pizza today was just exceptionally beautiful. Like commercial worthy. Not that it doesn't always look delish, this one just had some extra umph in it. We will forever continue...
Read morePicnic Pizza has been a dining staple for my family practically my whole life. When I think of comfort food, this is my restaurant. That being said, I haven't been here in a while (possibly a year or so) and I was happily surprised that the prices hadn't changed that much. But then I noticed the food portions HAD. The garlic cheesy bread was practically half the size it was previously. The antipasto salad was also significantly smaller, though filling. I understand we're in a recession and either price goes up or serving sizes go down, so I'm not affronted. I just wasn't expecting that big of a difference. I will absolutely continue to come here for comfort and familiarity. The restaurant was clean, quiet, and service was good. The benches/seating padding could use updating as the springs in my booth were...
