This was our first time in two years going to House of China, and the menu is pretty much the same as it is at every Chinese Restaurant. The recipes are vastly different though, and I'll be honest: the food is not worth it. My wife had the beef and broccoli, and for beef you want a sauce that is rich, more salty than sweet, and the sauce was definitely too sweet. I had the General Tso's chicken, and while this is a staple of any American Chinese kitchen this is the worst I've had. The chicken itself was okay, it's chicken, but the sauce again was way too sweet. If there was any spice in it at all it was undetectable. It was essentially sesame chicken with no sesame seeds. The egg drop soup was a disappointment as well. They make it from a beef stock and put shrimp in it. Even the rice was bland, it literally had a negative flavor. It required an unhealthy amount of soy sauce just to be able to taste it. The price for this culinary disappointment? $21.60. What? It would cost a lot less and taste a lot better at a hole in the wall type place, and in the future I will be seeking my Oriental...
Read moreI’ve been going here for years! It’s the best Chinese food in town. Everything is always fresh and service is usually quick. This place gives mom & pop feels; for instance prior to covid they used to leave a fresh batch of homemade cookies for guest to help themselves too. But that’s not the icing on the cake the meat they use is different from the other restaurants. What I mean by this is usually when you go to a Chinese restaurant you and you order a dish with chicken in it it’s always fried to be that standard puffy looking chicken but here if you were to order General Tso’s you’d receive chicken that looks like how normal chicken looks. Lastly I’ve brought several friends and family here and it’s quickly become their favorite place to get...
Read moreI can't recommend House of China II enough. I've been coming here for the better part of twenty years now, and even when there are long gaps between my visits, Mike always remembers me -- and even what I usually order! Where else are you going to get service like that?
The egg drop soup is to die for here! Be aware that it does contain more ingredients that most restaurants' version of the dish, including shrimp and mushrooms. Before going vegetarian, I used to get the Moo Goo Gai Pan religiously. Now I do the mixed vegetables with tofu and brown sauce. Both of these dishes are frankly fantastic.
If you're in Albany, Georgia, be sure to give this place a try. I promise, you...
