Firehouse makes some of my favorite subs and this location has friendly, hard working individuals who always seem to try their best despite at times being short staffed (seems to be the norm in these times). I really don't like reducing a location's ratings based on things that are out of their control, and every time I go into this location I see the people behind the counter doing their best to be friendly and as quick as they can be. I appreciate them very much and always enjoy going in. Just be careful if you pop in at lunch time on a weekday if you're in a hurry but don't blame the people behind the counter. They're doing their best. I frequent all the locations in ABQ (I really do like their subs) and this one is my favorite next to the location on the west side (Cottonwood). If you haven't tried a sub here yet, ask a team member and they will give you suggestions based on your preferences. Also, Firehouse doesn't charge more for upgrading to a large soda, which may not be the healthiest thing but it shows the company's approach to creating value. Thumbs up, and thanks everyone at the Academy location. Keep up...
Read moreI had an uncomfortable and frankly offensive experience at this Firehouse location. While speaking with another person in Chinese, I got up to leave and one of the staff members said “gamsamnida,” which is Korean. I was speaking Chinese, not Korean, and the staff member seemed to think it was acceptable to throw out a random Asian word without regard for what language I was actually speaking.
This comes across as racially insensitive and disrespectful. Grouping all Asian languages and cultures together is ignorant at best and contributes to harmful stereotypes at worst, and this is at least a microaggression. This staff member even seemed to walk away PROUDLY. Keep in mind that I also ordered in perfectly fluent, clear English — English is my first language — so there was no reason to single me out with a foreign-language phrase.
If employees aren’t going to greet or thank ALL customers with phrases from their native languages, they shouldn’t selectively do it for Asian customers either. That kind of behavior feels...
Read moreI’m usually not one to complain cause everyone can have an off day it’s understandable. But this is the 3rd time in a row they messed up my order. I work across the street and only get a 30 min lunch so I order online and go pick it up to save time. Why give the customizable options online if no one follows them anyway? I ask to remove peppers and onions, all 3 times they were still on my sandwich. I ask to add cucumbers instead twice they forgot those on my sandwich. I love the pickles there so I also ask for an extra. Have never gotten the extra and this last time I got no pickle at all. I’m sorry but this place is too expensive to never get the order you put in. Like I said I get a short lunch break so I don’t have time to take it back to get remade so this last time I called to see if they could make it up next time, they said I’d have to talk to a manager and hung up on me. Needless to say that was most likely my last visit to...
