The reviews for this place both on Google and other platforms seem to rate this place at roughly four stars: good but not great. This I have always found surprising, as this place has always looked really appealing when I've driven past it on Indian School. So, in an effort to get down to the bottom of this, I finally decided to actually stop by, go inside, and try it out for myself. First off: if aesthetics and atmosphere rank high on your list on what makes a restaurant exceptional, then Takumi will not disappoint. Sleek, modern, and proudly displaying a unique blend of American and Japanese decor. Takumi, can at the very least, say that it has its interior design going for it should everything else fail. After carefully glancing through the (lunch special) menu, I decided to indulge in some Teriyaki chicken. Miso soup, white rice, and vegetables are also included with each lunch special. There is, however, a dollar upcharge should you choose to upgrade to either, brown rice, fried rice, and/or chicken breast. As for me, upgrading to fried rice was all too tempting, so I did. Before long I had my food sitting right in front of me, which was prepared rather nicely. Despite this, I was expecting a bit more on my plate for the price I was paying: as the portion size was a little too much on the smaller side, even for a lunch-sized platter. A little disappointing, but the food itself wasn't half bad. The kitchen did, however, forgot to include my upgrade order from white to fried rice. After getting the attention of my server, the error was quickly resolved and hey, I got two bowls of rice for the price of one. In all, Takumi seemed to have lived up to the reputation the online community had assigned to it: good but not great. Prices are a little steeper than what you'd normally pay at similar restaurants throughout the city. Portion sizes could indeed be improved on somewhat, but other than that: a good place to consider if craving far-east cuisine while in the ABQ Uptown area.

**Social distancing is not done here. People were seated directly behind us and some people walking around with no masks. We ate here for the 1st time and it was ok. Decided to try the shabu shabu. We were told to do the shabu shabu it was minimum 2 orders. We had a choice of 3. One was meatlovers that consisted of slivers of beef, chicken, I believe 4 meatballs, udon noodles and seasonal veggies (carrots, lettuce, Bok Choy, mushrooms and I believe 2 slices of squash and 2 pieces of corn)$22.00. Another was Pirate Bay which had 2 pieces of peeled shrimp, 2 pieces of whole shrimp, 4 scallops, 4 muscles, 2 imitatiin crab balls (these were horrible, they were very sweet), udon noodles and seasonal veggies (same as mentioned above minus corn and & squash)$26.00 and last option was veggies lovers (seasonal veggies, tofu and udon noodles)$18.00. There were 2 options of broth, miso and beef. (I preferred the beef). I felt prices were very high for the amount of food given and having 2 order minimum made us spend more than we wanted but decided to give it a try anyways. Being that it was our 1st time we really had no idea how to prepare or eat it, other than dump everything in the pot to cook. They seemed very short staffed and weren't much help in directing. The waitress was very nice and I know it's not her fault but it was kind of a bummer. Needless to say we spent about $65.00 and that was just meal and tip, no beverage other than water. I probably won't be going back. Due to short staff wait was kinda long to get everything on our table too. If you don't want to spend so much I would suggest another restaurant. We ordered the meatlovers and Pirate Bay and really the amount we paid compared to the amount of food received wasn't worth it. Perhaps if you go maybe try something else. One should not be forced to have to order more than 1 order to have the experience. If you read my review, please hit the like button.

If I knew this was just Azumi by a different name, I would have skipped it. I ordered the curry chicken, and it tasted like water. The veg and chicken were chopped/shredded and had never met a speck of seasoning. My wife ordered two rolls and for the first time I can remember, she didn't finish either of them. How does one get curry to taste like nothing? How do you make a sushi roll to taste like something other than fish? While there are many good Asian restaurants in ABQ that aim for authenticity, there are many more that cater to a more "local palate". Watered-down curry is the best indicator because the local palate seems to universally dislike curry. Other indicators may include strange sauce pairings, sushi rice that's overly seasoned, and the absence of MSG in the food. Takumi checks all these boxes, and then some. While I understand their focus is on hibachi, clearly they've hired local chefs with a local palate to cook the rest of the menu.
