I am Mexican and from LA. So you know I know I've had my share of awesome vegan Mexican food. However, Vegos beats them all! Albuquerque was only a rest stop on our road trip but we were hungry and found Vegos, so we stopped by! It was the second best decision of the year! I ordered the enchilada plate and the awesome lady at the counter asked if for the sauce I wanted green, red, or Christmas. I said "Did you say Christmas?!" She said, "Yes! Green and Red Sauce!" I was so excited that I could do that and I loved the name for it, so of course I said yes!
Well, when we got our food (which wasn't even a long wait for the awesome freshness of the food)...it DID feel like Christmas! It was like an explosion of flavors magically gliding through my tastebuds and taking me back to childhood memories of Christmas mornings in Mexico!
As we left I ordered an order of churros for the road. That was the BEST decision of the year! They were perfectly crunchy on the outside, wonderfully doughy on the inside, and the sugar/cinnamon ratio was superb. Those churros felt, smelled, and tasted like Mexico!
I don't think I'll ever have a need to go to New Mexico again, but I will definitely return one day just for some Vegos!
I was with my non vegan friend...and he absolutely loved it too!
The food here is fresh and truly authentically made with Mexican flavors and love. From the service and great vibes to the amazing vegan food, Vegos is pure...
Read moreWhen going began it is a common misconception that somehow you are going to miss out on something, whether it be some sort of nutrition or flavor. I was one of those people, and for a long time, I felt there was something lacking. One of my and my family's favorite types of food in New Mexico cuisine. Everywhere you go in New Mexico there are restaurants are staring us down, but every single one of them has some animal product in their food. For me my family we were missing out on something., that good old-fashioned New Mexico flair for food. Well, that was until we discovered Vegos. It started out as a food truck, but the recently opened a location in a brick-and-mortar building. After discovering this we decided to stop by, and ill will tell you this we were not disappointed. They have smaller burritos that are smaller, and they are perfect for the food critic that is my 8-year-old, the cheesy bean, and rice burritos, or the cheesy bean potato burritos are her favorites. My wife really loves the back to Cali, and I cannot blame her. A food baby burrito loaded with French fries, vegan cheese, green chili, and seasoned soy curls is what's not to love. My personal favorite is the loaded fries. Fries with queso, beans, chili, and soy curls are heaven in both sight and taste. Everything we eat here is a very positive experience and I cannot speak highly enough about...
Read moreIt was about 2pm on a Saturday when we were welcomed by a door chime at this great vegan eatery. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by some great music accompanied by the most charismatic and friendly cashier I've met. We let her know it was our first time and she briefly went over the menu and highlighted all the local favorites. The entire menu was droolworthy, yet nostalgic, in the way that it reengineered New Mexican classics like the stuffed sopapilla and enchiladas plate for a vegan audience. I ordered the Loaded Fries with seitan and my partner landed on the Nobody Calls Me Chicken Sandwich. Washed down by some zesty local kombucha. We only waited a handful of minutes before our orders were shimmied over from the kitchen by our cashier; at this point the door bell signaled the bustling patrons, hinting that this was quickly going to be a local fave. The food was beyond delicious. My loaded fries were spicy, flavorful, and the "queso" added to the delectable flavors blended with the seitan (my choice of protein) in the compostable tableware. I managed to snag a bite of the mouthwatering fried tofu sandwich, and it sure made me rethink what chicken should taste like. The ambience, the staff, and most importantly the food will guarantee a...
