Our family truly enjoyed meals at Western View until this past Saturday February 5, 2022. Our nephew is disabled and was eager to get a part time job with no more than 15 hours a week, on Friday February 4, 2022 we went to have breakfast at Western View, the place was not full but busy, so the service was a bit slower than normal, finally the waitress tended to the 3 of us and said I am so sorry for not tending to your table sooner but we are short staffed and I am having to wait on tables plus help with the dishes I even called my son to come wash dishes and help out, I said my goodness they need to hire help she stated we are hiring, our nephew said that he would be interested the waitress said really he said yes so later on in the afternoon my husband drove him back to the restaurant to speak to Jimmy who owns the restaurant he hired him on the spot and asked him to come back at 8:00 AM the next day February 5, 2022 so we got him to the restaurant at 7:45 AM for no more than a 4 hour shift well the 4 hours turned into 9 hours, (remember that our nephew is disabled) when we returned at 1:45 PM our nephew looked visibly upset and shaken but stated that he was not finished yet, my husband did speak to Jimmy and Jimmy immediately mention to my husband that he realized that our nephew has a disability my husband said yes he does, at that point Jimmy said that he wanted to train him a bit longer and if he could pick him up in 1 hour we’ll the 1 hour turned into 2 1/2 more hours, finally after contacting my husband who had not gotten home from picking up our nephew, he immediately told me what was going on so I hung up with him and called my nephew and ask what is going on? He stated to me that he had not been told when to leave, I told him you need to let him no that you have already been there 9 hours, my nephew was scared to say anything, so when he got home he began to tell me what had happened throughout the day. Well here is the list of what happened
1, he had not yet been released from work 2, he had not had a lunch break 3, he was being verbally abused 4, he was told that he had to get back to work at 8:00 AM the next day 5, he was not being a dishwasher as expected 6, the owner had him with his bare hand removing a clogged toilet where my nephew cut himself and the owner would cussing and yelling at him 7, continued abusing my nephew verbally 8, Jimmy told the waitress give him some soup so he can leave 9, he left with no pay or told when to return for his pay
Our nephew felt that it was normal to be treated this way all because he wanted to work, he was so broken from how he was treated he simply could not...
Read moreI ordered a green chili bacon breakfast burrito for $6.45--the burrito is around 4.45 with tax, the bacon is an extra 2.75 with tax. well when i brought the burrito back to work for lunch i noticed there was no bacon, don't get me wrong...it was delicious, but i paid an extra 3 dollars for bacon that i did not get. i finished most of the burrito because it was very good. i work just down the road so about 2 hours later i went back (when i had a chance) to see if i could get a restaurant credit or be reimbursed. the lady who took my order remembered me and was very friendly and apologetic, HOWEVER, there is a big BUT-- a woman who was there and does not speak good English took over. i am assuming she is the owner....which is a pity because she is VERY RUDE, UNAPOLOGETIC, and she was very short with me and barely looked at me when she informed me that i could not get a credit or refund but 2 hours later tells me i will be getting my bacon. VERY BAD SERVICE! even her employees were giving me apologetic nods and disagreed with her but they couldn't do anything because she had the final say. after rudely informing me i would be getting bacon, without looking me in the eye, she ignored me the rest of the time and DID not apologize for her cooks mistake. her employees apologized for the mistake but she did not care. if this woman is the owner-- she has HORRIBLE people and customer service skills. i even asked the waitress if i could maybe get something else that is the same amount as the bacon, i assume the rude owner said no because no one ever came back to me with an answer i ended up with a random side of bacon. this was their fault and the way the owner handled it has me very upset because she was a nasty, unfriendly woman. it is obvious she does not appreciate nor does she cherish her clientele. although the food is great, because of the way that woman acted i refuse to support that restaurant because she is SOOO rude. if that woman is the owner i am simply disgusted with her, its a pity too because the food is great but was ruined by a nasty owner who is ungrateful to...
Read moreSuch a wonderful welcoming place with lots of great comfort food. They have the most delicious Greek salad in town along with great steaks and breakfasts and burritos. Yes, their menu is a bunch of diverse splendors!
Then the soups! Good and hot, homemade, great soups with medium hot green chile usually.
And, what I am PERSONALLY excited about this week, well, that is the corned beef and cabbage that will be the special as we all get together to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on the 17th.
I'm going to have to be honest here. This is a wonderful 1950s style diner and coffee shop. It is Albuquerque's version of Cheers and people DO talk to strangers. Yes, the servers are more like family. Well, really they ARE family as is Jimmy, the owner and Gina and Victor who are the chefs. I have read some complaints about the folks who work here treating customers as the friends that they are. If, by chance that is offensive to some, they might feel a little uncomfortable. But I know very few unfriendly places in Albuquerque.
So, come over and meet, greet and eat at the Western View! Kelly, Mary, Tina and Mona will tell you, "You got it!" when you place your order and then sit back and enjoy the ambiance! And if someone is talking about something at the next table that you are interested in, they usually love to have you join in!
Prices are quite reasonable. Steaks, Sandwiches, Fish, Breakfasts, New Mexican, Greek, Italian and American. My recommendation? The 8 or 16 oz ribeye with potatoes and salad as well as a Dos Equis Ambar for dinner or the Matador Breakfast Burrito for breakfast. But take your time perusing the...
