First Watch — Restaurant in Alcoa

Beautiful, immaculate, new restaurant. Disappointed with my food selection. First, let's start with the good; gorgeous, bright, immaculate dining room and facilities. Excellent, attentive service! Absolutely 5 stars for cleanliness and great customer care. As for the not so great; I was not impressed with my menu selection. I am NOT a breakfast person, whatsoever! Naturally, I went with lunch and ordered the Monterrey Club and broccoli cheddar soup. I Absolutely love club sandwiches, but the Monterrey Club fell well short of my expectations. It is served cold; no warmth or toasted bread. Although this sounds snobby, I can stay home and make cold sandwiches. In my experience, a traditional club is made with warm, toasted or grilled bread. The soup was delicious, but served barely warm. Soup is an item I prefer really hot. Honestly, I ordered the wrong meal. The menu has many other options for lunch, and I will order something different (and ask questions, prior to ordering) next visit. This was my first visit to a First Watch. I have avoided the brand, assuming it was strictly a breakfast venue. I am very pleased to say the lunch offerings are plentiful. If you're not a breakfast person (like me) no need to avoid First Watch. The menu is large, offering a diverse selection of both breakfast and lunch options. First Watch is only open for breakfast and lunch. Outdoor seating available. In my opinion, pricing was very reasonable. Great atmosphere for conversation with friends, family and colleagues. I'll give First watch the benefit of the doubt concerning their problems. After all, we did go at 9am on a Saturday. It was incredibly busy and we should have known better than to go on that day and time. Won't make that mistake again. We were told it would be 30-40 min wait, which sounded reasonable. Ended up being closer to an hour. Wait for food was a bit long but it was tasty. Had the egg sandwich. I think there was a manager but that person wasn't directing the cleaning staff. 5 tables at one time were left without anyone cleaning them for a while. 2 cleaners carried bins to put dishware in but 2 others were making multiple trips to the kitchen carrying only 2 or 3 items. Very inefficient. The workers with the bins were the smart ones. When tables aren't cleaned quickly you can't seat the guests and too many tables took too long to be cleaned. Should have been 2 workers putting dishes in bins with one or two going behind them cleaning the tables. We did see a worker sweep under a table after kids dropped food. Good move. Overall the staff were pleasant and never frazzled in spite of the chaos. I'll try again a different day and time to see if there is improvement. Went in for breakfast yesterday morning. Got seated fairly quickly and the waitress came over and checked on us. She was incredibly nice to our daughter. Even gave her some tattoos and the water to put them on. I couldn't help but notice how warm it was inside. Definitely needed to have the air conditioning turned up. It took a while to get our food. The waitress apologized and said they had several call outs. I do understand that, so no big deal. My breakfast came after about a half hour. My milk was kind of warm and my wife got iced coffee. I had bacon that was very tough and salty. Not the best I've ever had. The potatoes were undercooked and overly seasoned. The toast and homemade jam was outstanding and no complaints with the scrambled eggs. My wife got french toast and said it was okay but overall not impressed. My daughters chocolate chip pancake was the star of the show. Light, fluffy and rich chocolate chips. It was seriously good. I don't mind healthy eating if the food is good. All in all we were luke warm about the experience. People love this place and maybe we came on an off day. These things happen. I'm not in a hurry to try it again but would recommend you go and see...
