I was staying in the Hilton hotel this was attached to and thought I'd give this restaurant a try. Wrong decision. I bought the 8 oz. filet mignon ($34) and a side of baked Mac and cheese ($6). Overall these are pretty expensive items, so I expected good things. The "filet mignon" I was served looked like a flattened dog tongue that was cooked so thoroughly (I ordered it medium-well) that it was tough and flavorless. One of the worst steaks I've ever eaten for the price point. I have a soft spot for Mac and cheese. How hard is it to mess up that classic? Well, on my second forkfull of it, I almost ate a long strand of saran wrap, not only proving that they didn't check it before it was served, but also proving that their cooking methods probably aren't up to par. The server apologized but overall nothing else was said. Even the Moscow mule I got was terrible. Overall a terrible experience. Never eat at the hotel...
Read moreI just returned from a fairly basic dinner at a pretty substantial cost. If I wasn't staying at the hotel, I would not eat here again. The actual dinning area was closed and service was in the lobby bar area but by the restaurant. The New York strip was prepared as requested and was a nice cut of meat. The vegetables were over cooked, not properly trimmed. The potatoes reminded me of those one used to get out of an instant box back in the day. Speed of food preparation and delivery to table was acceptable; order being odd in the sense that rolls came 15 minutes 'after' the entree. Those around me had their orders arrive incorrectly from what they had requested. The wait staff was apologetic but correction time disrupted natural dinner flow. Servers were generally inattentive; not a huge issue since I prefer not to be interrupted a lot but it would be nice to at least be asked if you wanted a drink...
Read moreSysco-style food competently prepared with utility service, but with premium prices. Like many hotel restaurants, the food is ok with ok service, leaving one feeling like one should have eaten at McDonald's. Finn & Porter at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, was no different. I had deviled eggs that supposedly had horseradish in the filling, topped with bland bacon. The bison burger was lacking seasoning or the taste of bison, not cooked rare as requested, and with tasteless sauteed onions; the french fries were ok. The service, while pleasant, was inattentive. I had a Yuengling and a seltzer with lime, for both of which I had to wait. $46 (including tax and...
