Unfortunate experience, would not recommend dining at Indochen on King Street in Old Towne Alexandria. The manager and assistant manager that reluctantly assisted us during our visit were extraordinarily rude and dismissive to several diners that were of a certain presentation. Co-workers and I have spent literally thousands of dollars (trust me, we have receipts) over the past three years dining at this establishment (as our office is within walking distance of this restaurant) – this was my absolute last time being a customer of this establishment. While waiting on our orders, there were several African-American diners, including us that came in and were routinely ignored or dismissed by the two men assisting customers. Another diner, not with us patiently waited while customer after customer (who obviously looked differently) received their order while she stood there, ignored. I would highly recommend this establishment to persons of Indian-descent or Caucasian skin complexion; they will literally (we watched it happen, so yes, quite literally) pull out chairs for you and curtesy after seating you. The managers hold non-black diners in high-esteem and value. However, if you are ascribed as Black, African-American or fully melaninated, staff at Indochen Alexandria will completely disregard you as trash and unworthy of dining in their establishment. There is a much better restaurant with welcoming staff and better, more authentic Indian cuisine located just steps away at Namaste. Will not ever spend my money in this...
Read moreIndoChen delivers a vibrant, flavorful experience that showcases a perfect blend of Indian and Chinese influences. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the service is attentive without being intrusive, making it a great spot for both casual dining and special occasions.
The Fried Kale Salad is an absolute standout—crispy, light, and perfectly seasoned. It offers the ideal balance of textures with the deep-fried kale adding a satisfying crunch, while the tangy dressing ties everything together beautifully.
The Butter Chicken is nothing short of indulgent. The chicken is tender and juicy, smothered in a rich, creamy sauce that strikes a perfect balance between sweetness and spice. It’s the kind of dish you’ll want to scoop up with naan until every last drop of sauce is gone.
The Pork Belly is another highlight. The crackling skin provides a perfect contrast to the succulent, melt-in-your-mouth meat underneath. The rich, savory glaze adds depth without overpowering the natural flavors of the pork.
Finally, the Chicken Curry is full of flavor with a nice, gentle kick of heat. The chicken is perfectly cooked, and the curry’s robust, aromatic sauce is an absolute delight. It's not overly spicy but hits all the right notes of warmth and richness.
Overall, IndoChen does an excellent job of blending bold flavors and textures. It’s a must-try for anyone in the area, and I can’t...
Read moreTried this restaurant for the first time today, very disappointed in the taste and portions of their food!! We ordered apps, entrees and asked for some raw onions with chicken entree…… without informing or asking us , they charged us $3.00 in the final bill for couple of slices of raw onions and that also , they gave us when we were done eating half our lunch !! What a waste!!!
The portions are so small , specially of chilly chicken appetizer, it was unbelievable!! The chicken fried rice we ordered, tasted awful , nothing like Indian Chinese fusion at all…..the restaurant was empty except 2 more customers besides us on a Saturday afternoon .
The restaurant is big in a weird way with very weird scattered seating which made us not enjoy the ambience at all!
All in all, this restaurant is far below average and we won’t be going there again to waste our money !! This was our first and definitely our last time!!! Far more better Indian restaurants exist around...
