After buying some foot surgeon-suggested shoes and inserts at Pacers Running, I walked around King Street in Old Town hoping to find some non-chain deli for something for lunch. Not knowing what had survived the COVID pandemic, I was thrilled to find Stage Door Deli, practically just across the street on the same block, a place I had only seen when it had been closed outside its business hours. Its menu was posted outside on a window.

So for the first time ever, I entered, ordering two Philly Cheese subs ($7.49), made of sliced beef with sauteed onions and provolone cheese. The cook was very friendly, and we chatted while she prepared and cooked. It’s the kind of place you’d expect for a grill place, with everything from breakfast meals to hot food sandwiches, from healthy to not so healthy.
