I stumbled upon Turkish Coffee Lady after a relaxing massage nearby and decided to check it out. I’m so glad I did! This is one of the cutest and most charming coffee shops I’ve ever visited. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported to another world. The decor is warm, inviting, and beautifully inspired by Turkey’s rich culture—think bazaars, museums, stone houses, and authentic coffee houses. I’ve never been to Turkey, but walking into this cafe felt like a little escape abroad. I was warmly greeted by Gunay, who was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. As someone new to Turkish coffee, I had a few questions, and she graciously walked me through everything. I ended up choosing the Mardin mixed flavor coffee, a blend of pistachio, caramel, chocolate, almond, and vanilla. It was phenomenal. So rich and flavorful, easily one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had. I usually add plant-based creamer to my coffee, but this needed nothing. Served in authentic Turkish style, Gunay even explained the traditional order of sipping water, coffee, and enjoying the Turkish delights that came with it. I also picked up a Pistachio Baklava for my daughter, who said it was one of the best she’s had—rich, flaky, buttery, and full of flavor. The textures were perfect, with finely ground pistachios and a fragrant syrup that tied it all together. The space is quaint, cozy, and full of treasures. I left with their Minty Cappadocia - Cardamom Flavor specialty blend to enjoy at home and a lovely ceramic plate. They also sell unique gifts like jewelry, art, ceramic mugs, and other delicious treats. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay a while and come back often. Turkish Coffee Lady is truly a gem. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

Also reviewed on Instagram @ryrythefoodie ✨️ Some of the best baklava I've had can be found at Turkish Coffee Lady in Old Town Alexandria, VA. 📸 Pictured here is the Pistachio Burma Kadayif (really good 😋), their signature Turkish coffee (must try--fyi it's strong!), and the carrot-shaped Pistachio Baklava (w/ ice cream--omg 🤤). The decor inside is so beautiful and the service is really welcoming. There's minimal seating inside, but it's cozy and aesthetically warm and pleasing. There's also a cute, small table out front at the top of the stairs. A couple benches around the corner. Somewhat tricky street parking nearby, but TCL is a perfect stop when walking around King St. 🚻🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 They also do have one large and spacious (and clean!) single-occupancy gender neutral restroom in the back. I always try to keep track of gender neutral bathrooms in public places I visit for trans & non-binary friends and foodies for safety reasons 🏳️‍⚧️ On IG, I'll mark these places with the hashtag: #genderneutralbathroomsinva (or -dc, -md, etc.). Overall, this a fantastic place to visit, have great coffee and/or wonderful house-made Turkish pastries, and to chat with friends or relax solo. 5/5 stars 🌟

A Gem in Old Town! A Must Visit!

As a visitor to Old Town Alexandria, stumbling upon The Turkish Coffee Lady was a true highlight of our trip. From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped in warmth, not just from the rich aroma of coffee and tea, but from the inviting atmosphere and genuine hospitality.

The coffee was outstanding. The tea was perfectly steeped. The treats were delightful and authentic. Every detail is curated with care, from the calming music to the thoughtfully decorated space that beautifully reflects Turkish culture and tradition.

What truly sets this place apart is Seher, the owner. She is beyond beautiful, both in spirit and presence, and her kindness and graciousness made the experience unforgettable. Her passion for sharing Turkish heritage shines through in every interaction. It is clear she has created more than just a café. She has built a sanctuary of connection, comfort, and culture.

If Seher represents the heart of Old Town, then The Turkish Coffee Lady is absolutely the place to go for genuine hospitality, warmth, and the most delicious drinks you’ll find in the area. We look forward to our next visit!

A Declaration of Delight: A Review of Turkish Coffee Lady

When a traveler seeks refuge from the bustle of the world, he is met with a haven of exceptional warmth and hospitality at Turkish Coffee Lady in Alexandria, Virginia. Here, under the gracious management of Gizem, I experienced a coffee unlike any other: a Turkish brew with rich cacao notes and hints of cardamom, perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying.

My journey was made all the more delightful by a kind gesture from the café—a complimentary cup of tea, a token of generosity that speaks to the care Gizem imparts to her guests.

In addition to the coffee, I ordered three exquisite baklavas, each a masterpiece of flaky, honeyed perfection, filled with pistachios and walnuts. These were preserved for a former patron of TCL—indeed the very woman who had recommended I visit this café during my weekend visit from Houston. Her words were true.

I wholeheartedly commend Turkish Coffee Lady as a true gem in Alexandria, where both the flavors and the hospitality create a memorable experience. May it continue to shine as a beacon of excellence and a place of refuge for travelers and locals alike.

With deep gratitude, A Traveler...
