Current Boutique | Designer Consignment Shop — Local services in Alexandria

Current has several locations in this area, but I've only been to this one and the one on 14th Street. The day I came to the Old Town Current boutique, there were a lot of great pieces. I prefer dresses and skirts to pants, so I found a plethora of those in the store. Everything's organized and arranged pretty well. Of course occasionally you still see a misplaced size 2 skirt in the size 6 section, but for the most part, everything's in its proper place.

I think Current can be hit or miss. The day I came, it was luckily a hit. I found a fun black dress to wear when the weather's a little warmer and a tweed skirt to wear to work. These two items came out to be $35. They were also having a sale where all dresses were 10% off. While browsing, I found two Diane von Furstenberg dresses for $65 and $99 respectively, which is a steal compared to the retail price of DVF dresses. However, there were definitely some misses too. For the prices of some of these gently-used clothes, they were more than the retail price of the outfit at its new, peak condition.

I am very happy with the black dress I found. The skirt isn't too bad either. They're both very classic pieces I can wear anytime. I didn't try on any of the clothes in the store because for some silly reason, I thought I could return it if it didn't fit (when the weather is cold, I get lazy and don't usually try on clothes). Naturally though, this is a consignment shop so "returns" are really consignments. Luckily, both pieces fit (the dress more so than the skirt) but next time, I will have to try everything on...

I Hate to leave this review as 99 % of my reviews are to positively support small businesses. This review is also coming from someone who works in management. Early this afternoon I stopped at Current Botique as my daughter and I like to do whenever we are in the area. The way your staff made us feel today made me decide not to spend another dollar here. Not once were we greeted, acknowledged, asked if we needed help, it soon started to feel like we were just plainly being ignored and it felt uncomfortable. Your staff even seemed to avoid making eye contact with us. The sad thing is, in the past my daughter and I have always had friendly service and always found wonderful things. The only difference today was my daughters boyfriend was with us, did his skin tone make your 2 employees uncomfortable? I felt such a sadness the rest of the day wondering if this is how he may be treated often. I will never support this business again and to the owner, please teach these ladies the importance of customer service regardless of skin tone as it is your business who will suffer from these moments. Not once have i had an experience like this in a small business. I used to work next door to this establishment. Will never set foot in this store again. I was unable to purchase an item I put on hold. Called in advance to see if the item was still there, and they literally tricked me into coming to the store, fully knowing the item was already sold. They claimed to have so many similar bags of that type that they couldn't identify the one I asked to hold, and said I had to come into the store to find it. I went there were and no bags like it, not the price, brand, size, or material. Just plain lied to me on the phone, and then tried to get me to buy another item.
