While I was very excited to try this place out, it definitely fell short of my expectations and we left feeling like it wasn't very "majestic" at all.
This restaurant had been on my list for a couple of months and I finally had the opportunity to check it out with my work friends. We made a reservation for 3 people at 5:00pm on a Saturday. It wasn't busy when we got there. In my reservation, I had asked for a table that wasn't in the middle, and away from the hustle and bustle but we were sat in the middle--it's fine because it's not the biggest restaurant.
Our server was kind and gave us some recommendations. We started off with some appetizers, cocktails, and ordered 3 entrees (this is important for later). I didn't get pictures of everything because we were starving and some dishes were gone by the time I remembered to get pictures. The croquettes (3 in one serving) were tasty and would recommend. My friend said she really enjoyed her martini. I wish I had gone with a different cocktail (Madame M) but I think it was just due to my personal preference. My friends really enjoyed their Hanger Steak and Pan Seared Halibut. I thought my sea scallops were a bit bland and I felt some bites of sand when I was chewing. For dessert, we got the strawberry trifle, majestic coconut cake which we enjoyed.
Either way, the experience was going okay until the manager asked us to leave because it had been 2 hours since our start time. This put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth because (1) we spent a decent amount of time waiting to order, waiting for our drinks, waiting for our food, waiting to order dessert, and waiting for dessert (2) a time limit was not mentioned in the reservation on opentable, website, or when we checked in (3) other tables of 2-3 people who had come before us were still there and I didn't see the manager asking them to leave... (4) I feel we had ordered a justifiable amount of cocktails and food...we ordered a decent amount of apps, entrees, and drinks.
We did not feel very welcomed in this establishment, which is a shame. Will gladly explore other restaurants...
Read moreEvery quarter a group of us get together for brunch. We try to visit different places each time, hence, our visit here on 12/21. Of you've never been, you can miss it as it's in the middle of the block amongst other businesses, but it does have an arm style sign on the building. Street parking is tough, but there are several garages. Our server, Mario, started off very attentive when I first arrived as i was the first to arrive for the 10:45 reservation, but when the other 4 arrived, he literally began to disappear to the point where we had to ask others to send him to the table as well as find him ourselves. For example, he ONLY took drink orders and disappeared for 15-20 minutes, I asked another server to get him only for him to say he was waiting on the bar. We ordered 3 sangrias, 1 latte and a mocktail, really sir. On to the food, we ordered crab ragoons, sweet potato muffins, monkey bread and breakfast sausage beignets. The bites, the ragoons and muffins are just that, 3 mini sized/bite-sized pieces. The ragoons had more cream cheese than anything. The monkey bread was tasty, not very sweet, but the icing made up for what the bread. The ladies did enjoy the beignets. Apps are gone and we're waiting for Mario to take entree orders. After waiting 10 minutes, on my way to find the manager, found Mario in a closet area by the bar. He finally takes entrees, we ordered the salmon Benedict, crab & roasted corn omlette and the majestic breakfast. The Benedict was tasty, the omlette needed some type of sauce and the majestic was basic.
The food was ok and the menus are pretty simple/ basic, it's not enough to make me want...
Read moreI love The Majestic. The historic space oozes vintage art deco charm and classic 1930/40's atmosphere. It's very beautiful sleek dark and romantic. I always feel as if I've been transported back in time. While time travel happens frequently at dining establishments and bars in Philly, NYC, New Orleans and LA - no other restaurant in the DC area does this for me except The Majestic.
Service is always friendly yet professional. The servers, bartenders and bus staff are all thoughtful and knowledgeable. Maybe we've always been lucky? I've always had marvelous dining experiences at The Majestic whether dining solo, with my husband or a small group.
Brunch on Saturday or Sunday is always great. Fried Chicken and Waffle, Cheesy Polenta, Breakfast Sammy and Summer Chicken Salad are favorites.
Their brunch cocktails are wonderful too. My husband loves their Bloody Mary. I love the Blackberry and Herbs Royale or the Floral Pear Mimosa.
The lunch menu offers awesome deliciousness as well. The Majestic Burger, Roast Pork Sandwich and French Dip are all very satisfying excellent quality sandwiches. The Grilled Octopus appetizer is fantastic too. The grilled beet with goat cheese salad is another favorite.
I've only tried dessert once and it definitely lived up to its fine reputation. The Majestic Coconut Layer Cake with Lemon curd is a nice way to end any meal.
We've never been for dinner, so cannot comment either way. But with Alexandria's Restaurant Week coming up (Aug 19-Aug 28, 2016, $35/per person - 3 courses). I think we'll be having dinner at The Majestic very soon and you...
