I was looking forward to a home-cooked kind of meal, the reviews look fantastic, and I was looking forward to starting the week with a beautiful non-chain home-cooked type of breakfast.
The waitress was fantastic, two eggs any style with corn beef hash, toast with butter, and coffee. I had just taken a sip of my coffee, food was hot and smelled great, when a large roach right next to my head whispered, “hi,” and asked if it could share my breakfast. It was kind of bossy and did not take no for an answer as it started heading from the wall to the table I was sitting in.
I stood up and, in fluent Spanish, called out to the cook and let him know there was a roach. He just shrugged and kept cooking. I called the waitress over and explained the situation, and showed her the roach who waved hi as if they were friends. The waitress said, “oh.”
No shock, no surprise, no attempt to kill it. I kindly informed her I would not be paying and walked out.
I suspect the roaches and staff get along. I, on the other hand, almost vomited as my stomach twisted in knots.
And there sat my entire hot, freshly cooked breakfast, untouched by me, but I'm sure it had been touched by roaches singing, “We are Family!”
It's worth noting it was 8:30 am.
I ended up having breakfast at...
Read moreMe and my family went into the restaurant and it was pretty full. So we decided to just wait until someone was finished eating, while we looked at the menu to decide what we wanted. It was about ten minutes and 3 other parties came into the restaurant and were waiting as well. We saw a family start to get up and we assumed we would sit there since we were the first in line waiting. The waiter told us that one guy had to sit in one of the chairs that connected with another family that was already there. So we said okay and thought we would take the other 2 chairs that were available and just wait for the other chairs to be empty so the rest of my family could sit. The waiter ended up sitting a single male down and a couple down in our chairs we were going to sit in. It was confusing because that was where we were going to sit and she just blantly disregarded me and my family. So we decided to go somewhere else, after she refused to sit us. Very bad experience for my family. The restaurant was a Hispanic run restaurant and we were the only black people in the restaurant... I will not assume it was about race. But they seated other Hispanics before us.... when we were there waiting the longest. Looked like a great restaurant to eat at, but...
Read moreMy family visited the Waffle Shop today 10/16/21. Based on the reviews I thought we were in for a real treat. However the pictures and reviews do not match the quality of the food. Our waitress was very nice and personable. We ordered the chicken & waffles, pancakes, and fresh toast (w/ meat, eggs, & homefries). The waffles were extremely bland (tasted like air), the chicken was boxed wing dings, and the pancakes were tough/chewy to cut. Additionally the potatoes for the home fries were bland & partially cooked. Out of the entire meal the french toast was the most edible & flavorful. Lastly, the seating is in such tight quarters you'll be better off ordering your meal & standing on the sidewalk to eat it! I have a toddler and there was no place to put the highchair, my boyfriend had to place the highchair between his legs and eat with his plate on his lap! There is outdoor seating available but it was a little chilly to eat outside today and even that is tightly packed. Overall, the pictures online are a decoy to the reality of what's being served. I appreciate the opportunity to have tried this place but I would never return to...
