HeChaLou Tea is a new boba shop in the San Gabriel Valley. Specializing in tea jellies and imported teas sourced from Taiwan, they offer a diverse selection of toppings for their drinks. Riding on the coattails of their first shop in Lakewood, CA, they opened a new boba shop in the 99 Ranch market.
I went for their soft opening and I was greeted by the employee at the register. I was offered samples of their tea jellies and a few of their teas. While I thought the green tea wasn't anything special, upon my first sip of their jin xuan oolong, I knew I was hooked! Even at 0% sugar, the jin xuan oolong has a creamy aftertaste and an overall smoothness that is addicting. As for their tea jellies, I had a sample of their black sesame jelly and their signature jelly. The black sesame jelly has a powerful sesame taste, which if you're a fan of, I would highly recommend it. It also has a bit of creaminess that would pair well with milk teas. The signature jelly didn't stand out as much, but I still thought it was good as the texture was supple and had a hint of sweetness that I could see as a grass jelly substitute.
After trying the samples, I ended up ordering the jin xuan oolong tea with osmanthus jelly. I think this is one of my favorite drinks in the SGV area because the osmanthus jelly, with its floral taste, pairs really well with the creamy undertone of the jin xuan. I would highly recommend it at the S0 level so you can fully appreciate the dimensionality in tea flavor!
While hanging out in the dine-in area, I also noticed that they had a sign that was looking for workers. It might be an interesting place to work especially if you're able to drink all...
Read moreJason, one of the guy that works there. Super friendly and helpful. I accidentally ordered a small size and he made me a large size after. I insisted on paying but he offered me that for free. Appreciate the generosity and offer.
I knew this place from Long Beach and i tried it a couple of times and love it! Their drinks have strong tea taste thats thats their signature. Super popular and crowded in LB. When i found out they are opening this Alhambra location, i was excited and looking forward to it.
This place sits inside a Chinese supermarket called 99 ranch market. Once you walk in from the entrance, its located on your left hand side near the far left entrance. They have a few chairs and tables where you can sit and enjoy your drink.
I ordered a classic "daydream" black milk tea with signature blend tea jelly and a orange orchid green tea with oolong tea jelly.
Sugar tea i had both at level 3. Both have strong tea favor which thats something i love in a milk tea. Totally dont understand why some people say their drink has less or light tea flavor unless its just their drinks. The jelly for both drinks are not too sweet but you can taste it. It blended into the drinks so the tea and jelly taste wont over one another.
Hechalou didn't disappoint me on my 3rd tried and they still rank one of the good boba spot in the SouthCal and SGV now that Alhambra has a location. I'm someone that goes everywhere for boba so I hope this can help you on deciding if you want to...
Read moreOrdered a regular signature tea with matcha pudding, S3 sweetness, and less ice. The regular size here is closer to the small size you might find at original tea stores years ago, the large size here is a regular size everywhere else nowadays. The signature tea is a pleasant smooth black tea blend with a hint of malt; it’s not very sweet even with S3 sweetness, easy to drink. The matcha pudding are rectangular chunks near the bottom and they had a distinct matcha flavor in some of the bigger pieces that fell apart from the pudding. This location is inside of a 99 Ranch Market, inside a small shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking. You can order from their digital kiosk or through your mobile phone. Order pick up was very quick and there is some private seating on the side to relax too. Staff appeared very energetic and...
