If I could give 0 stars to Primanti Bros. Altoona, I definitely would! Last Friday, June 19, 2020 I arrived in Altoona hungry and ready to eat at this popular chain. Upon arrival the hostess was friendly and accommodating offering us a choice in booth or table as the restaurant was not at all busy! Feeling a little hesitant because I did not see any people of color in the establishment--working or dining-- we decided to stay as this was a chain restaurant and I anticipated a higher standard of service and cleanliness. Our server, A younger girl with glasses, greeted us, offered beverages, and placed our order. We were unfamiliar with the restaurant, stated we were from out of town and still she made little to no attempts to demonstrate product knowledge or guide us through our first Primanti experience. Eventually, I ordered a salad and french fries and upon arrival I realized my silverware was dirty and I was in need of extra salad dressing. My server did not return to my table to check that my order was correct or needs were met so when I saw a manager, who appeared to be a person of color, like me; I intended to ask for a clean fork and extra ranch, however, his body language and facial expressions were so extreme, I suddenly felt uncomfortable asking him for anything other than my server. My server finally returned to my table after maybe 10 min or so of my food being delivered with an attitude. I politely requested the items i needed and continued to wait another 7 min.until i could enjoy my meal. The girl returned quickly with a new fork, that was still wet and had the appearance of being washed. My problem with this is that she went to the front of the restaurant to retrieve the silverware where there is no sink, or dishwasher for her to return a WET, UNROLLED piece of silverware to a customer. I have a degree in Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management and have worked in this industry for over 20 years and I have never trained or been trained to use dirty sanitizer water to clean a customers fork as this could cause severe food poisoning. Today, is Saturday one week since I left Primanti Altoona with the most severe food poisoning i have ever had. I was just released from the hospital in my homestate of Maryland where I suffred from acute kidney failure due to dehydration from the liquid death on a fork the waitress at Primanti Altoona tried to serve me. I will never eat at this restaurant again and will tell every person of color I know not to patronize them as well because clearly our Black Lives Dont Matter at Primanti Bros...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went out with our friends last night to have a nice dinner out. We've eaten here before and the food was great so we were excited to try something else since this was only our second time coming up. Our friends had been having a bad day that day which is one of the reasons why we had come to try and cheer them up. My boyfriend and I got a table while we waited for them since they were in their truck talking. Everything was going fine and eventually they did join us at the table, my boyfriend and our friends ordered alcoholic drinks while I decided to stick to soda. Mind you none of us were tripping over our feet, stumbling, slurring our speech or anything that would indicate that we had already been drinking. Our server Ashley took their IDs and went to the bar, the bartender comes back a minute or two later and tells us that Ashley told him that she believed that my one friend was drunk so he wasn't going to serve any of them. So apparently now your servers are allowed to lie to the bartender just so they don't have to fill an order. The bartender wasn't any better, he gave us an attitude about the whole situation. We asked for the check since our night had just been ruined, when the bartender came back with the change he all but slammed it into my friends hand when she held it out to take it. Obviously you need to retrain your servers on how to spot someone who actually is intoxicated and you need to teach your whole staff how to be more professional and not give people an attitude when they ask for the bill. I was going to call to complain last night until I saw that apparently you close at 10 on Sundays, if that had been the issue all it would have taken is for either the server or bartender to say so and we would have been understanding and left instead of your server lying and your...
Read moreYesterday, my fiance and I went to the restaurant having previously enjoyed our last meal there (which was a change, because I had been to another location and disliked it immensely). We sat down and order drinks only to be told that we could not have them because they didn't have the alcohol, but we could order another--mind you, these were menu items, the milkshakes--only to be told that the other my fiance wanted could not be made for the same reason. At this point, we wondered what was actually available and ordered beers. When our food finally arrived, I had the incorrect pizza but couldn't tell the waiter until it was already cold and we had never gotten the dressing we asked for as he never checked on us and my fiance HAD BITTEN INTO AND EATEN A BITE OF A RAW CHICKEN WING. We let the staff know and, while our food was comped--but not all of it as my bill was still high--we never once saw the manager. Raw chicken. No manager. My fiance is currently sick today, all signs pointing to food poisoning or salmonella, but I never once spoke to a manager. This place has been open for some time, so this isn't a "new restaurant" issue. We will not be back, and it seems my initial impression of this chain was correct. No real concern of the raw chicken was expressed at the time either, so I'd be a little more concerned with it in the future. The waiter was polite about it, but was either too busy with everyone else or was too embarrassed to tell us anything. He was a good waiter for the most part and I do not blame him, I blame the manager on duty for not...
