Don't let initial impressions discount what comes out of the kitchen. Small restaurant (8 tables with 4 seats each) with single bathroom, we were fortunate to arrive right after a family of 8 was leaving. According to one of the employees, they had been there nearly two hours so luck was on our side.
We ordered 4 appetizers and 5 entrees and dined family style. Cream cheese wontons ($4.95) were a hit. Crispy and filled with sweet cream cheese, a side of sweet and sour sauce accompanied the five pieces. Corn cakes ($5.95) and fried tofu ($4.95) were popular with the family too. Crispy shrimp rolls ($6.95) were okay. Pass on these and go with another option.
Chicken basil fried rice ($10.95), chicken pad thai ($10.95), and chicken pad kee mow ($10.95) were served piping hot with generous portions of protein and vegetables. Jungle curry ($12.95) and pepper garlic shrimp ($11.95) came with a serving of white rice. Shrimp pieces were cooked just right and quite plump. Jungle curry had nice flavors and would've benefited from more vegetables.
Service throughout the meal was attentive and consistent. Our glasses of water were kept full without having to ask for more. All in with 20% tip for our party of six was $100.
Spice Thai Cafe is worth a visit or two or more. Just be prepared to wait if you're with a party of more than 4. For those more adventurous, there is the option for asking for their...
Read moreWe called to order and got curbside pickup within 15 minutes. Everything went very smoothly and it felt quite safe.
We ordered pineapple fried rice (medium), pad kee maow / drunken noodles (medium), and pepper garlic shrimp (mild). They were generous with giving extra spring rolls, which were delightfully crispy on the outside and were devoured within minutes.
The pineapple fried rice and pad kee maow were competitively priced as part of the lunch special, and the portions were decent. The pad kee maow was the crowd favorite, with supple, addictive noodles. The pineapple fried rice was delicious and had just the right amount of oil and sweetness. The medium spice level was great for us relatively spice-intolerant individuals.
However, the protein in general was not to the same standard. The pepper garlic shrimp dish could be improved. While the shrimp was tender, there were only 6 medium-sized pieces. The dish mostly consisted of sauce and veggies alongside plain white rice, and it was the most expensive dish. The chicken in the pineapple fried rice and the pork in the drunken noodles were dry, although flavorful.
Overall, we would come here again for the bargain prices, robust flavors, and kind service. However, we hope the meat is...
Read moreThis place is a hole in the wall, like almost literally it's really small but the good kind. It feels rather honey here and I believe it's BYOB since I saw the couple next to me bring their own. Anyways Spicy Thai is next to that big Italian restaurant taking most of the lot.
The decor seems very limited for most Thai places I've seen which is a good thing if they focus more on the food. I was asked what drink I liked immediately and tried the Thai tea which was good but nothing crazy. Out came the Tom yum soup we ordered which was a good portion for a large. It was about 4 small bowl sized. We ordered shrimp in it and it came with a ton of shrimp which they didn't skimp on. It was pretty good as well.
I ordered pad thai and my wife got the pad see yew noodles. The pad thai noodles were great. Tasted great and they use a smaller but fresher noodle. I really liked the flavor and they also asked out how hot you would like it. The pad see yew was really good as well. Good flavor but not overpower. The portions are big and made to share but we ended up with to go boxes in the end. The tab came out very affordable and I would definitely recommend and come back some day if I was...
