We recently stayed at the Delta Hotel by Marriott in Allen, TX while we played in a softball tournament. Our entire team stayed in this hotel so we had roughly 13 rooms booked for just our team. When I booked the room, I booked it for 3 nights, 4 adults. I also requested a roll out bed, an extra blanket and pillow, and extra towels during my booking.
When we arrived for check in I asked about the roll out bed and was told that they donāt offer roll out beds, ok. When we got to our room there were no extra pillows, blankets, or towels. I called the front desk and was told to send someone down for them. I sent my girls down and they were told that there were no extra of anything. During our stay room service never came to our room. We had to call to get clean towels and rags. Each time we were brought 2 towels and 2 ragsā¦keep in mind I booked the room for 4 adults. We all showered everyday after sitting out in the heat during games.
As a group, we celebrated one of our players birthday on Friday evening. We had pizza and a cookie cake by the pool to celebrate. We had a cooler with sodas and water for the girls. Some parents bought alcohol from the hotel bar and some parents brought their own beer. We were approached by the bar manager who asked that we just try to keep the beer that we had brought discreet because it was TABC law that we couldnāt consume our own alcohol on premises. About 15 minutes later we were approached by another man who told us that we needed to pack all of our stuff up and take it back to our rooms. He said if we wanted any food or drinks that it would need to be purchased from the hotel, we could not have any outside food or drinks there. We asked if we could let the kids eat first then we would remove everything from the pool area. He responded with āyou have 2 minutes to get all of this stuff out of here or Iāll just have you all removed from the hotel.ā We did have a large group but we were in no way being loud or disruptive. Our girls were in the pool and keeping to themselves. We were eventually moved to a small room after asking to speak to the manager about the incident. The problem wasnāt removing all of our stuff, it was the way we were spoken to.
When I went through my bill after check out, I noticed 5, $15 charges for upgraded internet service. When I looked through my Marriott rewards account it says that upgraded internet is complimentary. I did not call and try to argue with them about the additional charges for the internet because I just didnāt feel that it was worth it after the other issues that we had.
We travel a lot for softball, baseball, and work conferences. This was my first experience with a Delta Hotel and will be my last. I will pay more to stay somewhere else...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe reserved a room at the Marriott Dallas Allen Hotel & Convention Center and used Titanium upgrade certificates for a suite. When we checked in, we were given our room keys and no other information. When we made it to our room, we discovered that it was a handicapped room. (Very unfortunate that we were not informed at the desk before making it to the room.) Not the best arrangement for the sink and shower, but we were tired and just unloaded our luggage.
My wife took a shower only to find out that there was no hot water. I called the front desk and was informed that the natural gas had been shut off earlier that day, but all should be restored in several hours. (Too bad no one told us at check-in about the natural gas/hot water.). A bigger issue was the āheatedā pool. Our 7 year-old granddaughter was coming to visit the next several days for swimming. We were assured that the pool would be appropriately heated by the next morning. Unfortunately, no. It was not heated and never was the three days we were at this property. That is a major failure on the part of the management.
I took a shower the next morning only to find that water had run from the shower pan (no edge to the shower pan) into the closet (and everything else on the floor), soaking my wifeās back-pack filled with vintage reading books for our granddaughter, magazines, and my wifeās new M1 Mac. I went to the front desk and explained the situation. The receptionist gave me keys to a new room (you guessed it - another handicapped room) and then came up to the flood room for a look and photos. The front desk employee promised that the property manager would call to discuss the situation. That never happened.
This property does not have an M-Club or Concierge Lounge. Another big disappointment. It has an Elite Pantry, the size of a large closet for snacks, but most of the time, the snacks were gone. We were provided with breakfast coupons, but that was iffy at best. The powdered eggs were a bit runny and the pastry. I do not know exactly how to describe them other than previously frozen and tasteless. My wife endured the breakfasts, but I went out and found something more appealing.
I checked out using the app, but the folio never was emailed. So, I had to go through the extra effort to contact Marriott and have a copy sent.
Overall, the property is in a very nice location. The physical condition of the building and rooms is very nice, but so many of the details that make a Marriott a Marriott is missing. We went for walks every evening past a dog waste station that was full and out of bags. The bags were never replaced nor the waste emptied the entire three days of our visit. This location is in dire need of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently stayed for 9 nights for an event being held at this facility. There were charging errors during my stay (overcharged for incidentals, charged twice for a couple of nights, etc). The hotel staff did accommodate my room request of a low floor and corner room which was nice. The hallways were warm and extremely humid even on the 2nd floor. The room itself was lacking in some aspects. The mini fridge had to be 'turned on' every few hours to keep things cold, plus it was very small (it wouldn't even hold a standard size takeout container). There is only one drawer to store clothes, and the 'closet' holds maybe 5 hang up items. This might be fine for a single person or couple, but not a family of 4. The beds were comfortable and pillows plentiful. Towels were soft and fluffy. We noticed when making up our bed though that a lot of down and dust would come out of the duvets which is concerning for someone who has allergies. Our catered meal for the event left a LOT to be desired (food was served cold, couldn't even call it lukewarm). Room service, breakfast buffet and bar food was all delicious though, and I felt I got a good meal for the price I paid. Grab & Go was a bit inflated in my opinion on their prices ($5 for a bag of gummy bears). One day we got locked out of our room when our key reader batteries died. It took maintenance over an hour to get to our room to fix the problem. I'm very glad that this didn't take place while my daughter's pageant events were happening as her wardrobe was locked in the room! She would have missed her event! Housekeeping: It was random what we would get done when we requested service (one time we only got fresh towels. another we got fresh bed linens and k-cup restock only. 1 time we requested a vacuum only and got everything EXCEPT a vacuuming of the room). On our final night I noticed that there was a THICK layer of dust on the wall above the beds....and it clicked that this was what was probably getting blown around the room when we shook out covers. It was gross. For only being 4 years old, this hotel needs some basic upkeep to keep it looking nice (mold marks and peeling wallpaper in the halls for example). Having the Watters Creek shopping center right across the street was super convenient with many food options and a grocery store. We really liked that we had direct access to our floor from the parking garage. I do wish the garage had a security arm or some way to check-in and make it a little more secure. The pool, lobby, restaurant, and convention center spaces are nice and well kept, and for the most part the staff I interacted with were super accommodating...
