Sophistiqué - French Bakery — Restaurant in Allentown

I bought some type of croissant sandwich from a lovely coffee shop over a year ago that STILL makes my mouth water just thinking about 🤤🤤 I don't remember the name of the sandwich-- only that it was made by Chef Sophie, and it was the most delectable buttered croissant with melted cheese and and maybe ham or egg on it? I don't fully recall what it was, but it was hands down the BEST breakfast sandwich I have ever had. It's the type of richness that almost makes you feel guilty for eating probably 10 days worth of calories in butter-- but at the same time, IT IS SO GOOD and so you feel completely justified in eating all of it, and going back to Chef Sophie's to buy another treat for later that day 🤣😂 Sophie was so sweet and kind, and you can literally taste the love and passion she pours into baking her pastries. I was so excited to hear she is finally opening up her own bakery!! You NEED to try this brand new French Bakery in Allentown PA. Chef Sophie has graced Allentown with her amazing creations all for sale in this adorable new bakeshop. I can't say enough about the items we've sampled. They are so incredible, just doing this review has me drooling! Her croissants are so layered and buttery and flaky. The chocolate variety has amazing thick, smooth chocolate in them. Her brownies are to die for. These photos were taken on her opening day, so she didn't yet have all her cases filled with pastry. Since this visit my husband has gone back several times to bring home goodies for special occasions. He shows up before opening time, and gets IN LINE! Yes, her pastries are that good that she has a line waiting in the cold for her to open her doors—people coming from an hour or more away to try her offerings. She is so sweet and always ready to tell you about her creations. As I said, you NEED some Chef Sophie pastries in your life!

Oh! Also, her baguettes are TO-DIE-FOR! Get them early while they are warm and just have at 'em with some softened butter. Heaven...

Great newly-opened bakery. They still need to smooth out a few kinks, but even in its current state Sophistiqué is one of the best bakeries in the valley. Their laminated pastries separate cleanly into layers and bake into a super crispy flaky shell. I recommend the kouign amann and financier.

When I had the plain croissant, it had a gritty texture from the fat and a slight raw flour taste in the center even though it was fully cooked. I suggested a few possible causes, but the owner’s response made it clear my suggestions were wrong. Then perhaps the freezing cold weather messed with the croissant? I’ll have to try heating it up in the air fryer next time.
