JJ's Steak & Pizza House — Restaurant in Alpena

Was in Alpena from out of town and kids really wanted pizza. Ordered an extra large pizza with “lite sauce - very little sauce”. The kids won’t touch pizza with a lot of sauce, and we don’t really enjoy a lot of sauce either. Pizza came out and had what could only be considered a normal amount of sauce on it, quite a bit. Rather than complain and send it back - I hate sending food back - we tried to feed it to the kids, who picked it apart and cumulatively less than a slice each. My fiancée and I each had a couple slices. Waitress came and offered a box for what was left (more than half) to which we declined. She then offered to take it away and we let her. I then expressed to her our disappointment that the pizza had so much sauce on it, despite asking for very little sauce. She told me she put it on the ticket, offered no remedy, then whisked our pizza off to the garbage. We had a long day on the road and were really looking forward to this visit, which ended with two very frustrated parents and two hungry kids. I see many people leaving good reviews and am glad they got to enjoy the food (which the pizza is pretty good).

The service though has been horrendous for over the past 3 years my family/friends and I have been going. We used to go every Saturday night from about 9-12 or so.

This last time, it took us over 30 minutes to get our order of appetizers taken. Then we were given 2 refills through out the entire night (we politely asked for our second one and this night was well over 2 and a half hours we were there).

After this our appetizers took another 20 minutes to be brought to our table Followed by 1 hour until we got one of our 2 pizzas. The second pizza was sent out on a delivery when we were dining in.

A time before this it took over an hour and a half to get our checks (which was after a similar timeline as this last visit). That visit was 4+ hours because of how slow it was.

Everytime we have had bad service we were not there when it was busy (4-6 tables occupied with 2-3 people each). Another factor that may have played into why we had such bad service was we weren't in the same room as the bar.

Never been AJ j's before until. Never will go back after today. Went to have a late lunch. Wanted a spinach Salad with steak instead of chicken or shrimp. Unfriendly rude Show called waitress tell me that I could probably. Have that for an upcharge and I said okay. And she walked away. Also ordered a cup of soup. She came back and told me that she was not able to give me. My spinach salad with the steak unless I Was to purchase a full ribeye steak dinner On top of purchasing the spinach salad. Keep in mind. The spinach salad was like 14 or $15. And the river dinner was like 25. Who wants to pay $45 for a frickin spinach salad? Not me.! That's not an upcharge that's highway robbery. No wonder people don't want to eat at your restaurant. No wonder people don't wanna go out because you're gouging people?. I want to let you know j j's that I went to Myers and bought a steak and some spinach and some vegetables and came home and made my spinach salad with steak for $20 you morons.
