The food is good, but not worth the totally rude and condescending attitude of the staff. I've been going to Alpine bakery for years. Even before they moved, our office ALWAYS got our cakes and desserts for employee birthdays, and often ordered pizzas for lunch. Since they have opened the full restaurant, we've been there many times for lunch, and order lunch to go at least monthly, as well as still ordering our cakes there. The last time we ordered lunch, and as usual it if for 10-12 people, I had several orders of eggplant parmesan, and one with no egg. When they were packing the food, I noticed none of them were marked, and asked which one had no egg, as it is in between the layers, and you cannot tell by looking. They young man helping me asked the kitchen manager, who took all three orders to the counter at the kitchen, opened them, and with his hands poked at all of them until he found the one that did not have an egg in it. Really?!!!! He did not wash his hands, or put gloves on, and was literally picking apart the eggplant parmesan with his fingers. The young man helping me looked quite embarrassed and apologized. I told him I wanted them to re-make them, and he said he didn't blame me. As good as the food is, it makes you wonder what other unsanitary methods they practice. We have been going for years and the food is always good, so I gave them another chance, and we have gotten several cakes and ordered lunch once without incident until this weekend. I called Saturday to see if they had a particular cake for my dad and grandfathers birthday party on Sunday. They said they did, but could not hold it, I even offered to go ahead and pay for it. They said they couldn't do it, but that there should be no problem getting it the next day. I called the next day to make sure it was still there, told the girl I was on my way from Canton and again offered to pay over the phone. She said they had plenty, and there would be no problem when I got there. I arrived about 35 minutes later, asked for the cake and the girl said "we don't have any of those" I told her I had just called, even though I am quite sure she was the one I talked to, and she said she'd go look in back. She came back and 30 seconds later and said "nope, no cake". I told her I had just wasted over an hour driving there after being told they did have one and offering to pay for it in advance, she said " we don't hold cakes that aren't special order, have a nice day". No apology, no offering other resolution, just a very snide and obnoxious, "have a nice day" three times, basically saying they didn't want my business. Well, that's good, because I will NEVER go back, and none of our medical offices or doctors will be ordering either, as I am the one that does the ordering. There are plenty of places out there that treat their customers with dignity and respect. I would also like to add that I asked how much the large German chocolate cake was, and was told $79.00, which I could not justify for a small family party, however looking at their web site, it's actually $59.00. So not only are they rude and condescending, they also apparently employ liars and thieves. I can see by past reviews that I am not the only patron you have run off by your total lack of regard for the people you are supposed to be providing a service to. Eventually it will...
Read moreWe went here to celebrate graduation of family from UGA. We had 10 people. Waiter was rude, Did not listen to what we ordered. Ask for room temperature water with no lemon. I received ice water with lemons all over it. I ask again, Please can I get water with no ice and no lemon... I got cold soda water again with lemon. I told the waiter this is soda water and he rolled his eyes. People ordered coke and received tea...
I ordered Calamari, It was so over cooked it was crunchy. I did not say anything about it at this point but only ate a 1/4 of my meal. It was obvious it overcooked by the dark brown color.
When it came to close out our bill, My brother-in-law wanted to pick up the bill for everyone but I ask the waiter to put me and my wife on a bill by itself. It had 20% automatic gratuity added to the bill due to the size party. Which was not at all earned, but still nothing said. My bill came to $30.48 including the tip for me and my wife. I paid $30.50 cash and the waiter collected the other bill from my brother-in-law. We sat and talked for a few while we waited for the waiter to return the credit card to my brother-in-law.
As we started to leave, the waiter returned and handed me the bill sleeve and said the gratuity was already added. I chuckled to myself thinking he was bringing me my two cent change, Opened the sleeve and $30.00 was inside. I ask what was this, and the waiter looked at me funny just walked away. Now I am thinking why and how did my brother-in-law pay my bill. We all got up and was leaving our table, my wife and I were almost to our car when my mother called us to come back inside because the waiter said we did not pay our bill...? I returned and ask to speak to the manager. The manager came over and I explained what happened and pointed to a security camera over our table. I said I paid $30.50 for our meal and $30.00 was returned and all that was said was "the gratuity was already added." I said to the manager, "I did not say anything about the rude waiter, I did not say anything about the over cooked food and I did pay my bill. Go review the security camera and you will see I put one $20.00 one $10.00 and two quarters in the sleeve. The manager said "no he will not review the cameras and I could leave and not come back... I took out more change from my pocket and tossed another fifty cents on the table and left.
All this was over fifty cents the waiter lost as part of the gratuity. It was all on the camera, but ok I will...
Read moreI have been going to Alpine for a long time, and I took the family there yesterday to get a slice a cake. Little did I know they had remodeled since we had been there last. It was mid afternoon, and not crowded. At the old Alpine Bakery you went left for restaurant and right for the bakery. In the new Alpine Bakery, it is all treated as one and a âtake-a-numberâ process has been added. I assumed the numbers were for the restaurant side, as on the bakery side, people look around and TRY to decide what delicious baked goods to buy. There was no one being waited on, except two people checking out. We already knew what we wanted so I patiently waited at the registers to order. We waitedâŠ.And waitedâŠAnd waitedâŠand staredâŠand nodded our heads at the staff to signify we were ready..But no one came. Then about 10 minutes later 5 customers came in. Then the staff came up to me and asked my number, I said I didnât have oneâŠthat I just needed to get a slice of cake. The staff said again that I would have to get a number and changed the number to the next one. Now we went to go get a number and would have to wait all over again. I announced we would just leaveâŠBut my family wanted to get a slice as we had already waited this long. One of the people waiting said they would switch numbers with us since we had been there so long and they needed to make up their mind first before ordering. I just think that was rude of the staff there. They OBVIOUSLY saw us there waiting and waiting, and they saw we were there before everyone else. A simple, âWe have a new system now, please utilize it next time as we get really busy,â would have been the right thing to do. A simple stop in to get a slice of cake turned into 20 minutes of waiting for service when they were not busy and had plenty of staff. Luckily, someone swapped numbers with us, or it would have been even longer. Then to make matters worse, the person next to me while checking out didnât have a number and walked right up to the register while everyone with numbers was looking around and ordered with the other staff member! Come on?! You have AMAZING FOOD and AWESOME BAKED GOODSâŠBut your service was extremely lacking. I would definitely give Alpine Bakery a 5 Star Review normally (as the place is remarkable and the food deserves 6 Stars), but I am waiting for a few more visits before I can give a true review of...
