After several attempts at getting a pizza delivered from Altamonte Springs pizzerias claiming to have New York style pizza I decided to call this place and I hit pay dirt when they told me they did deliver. Believe it or not it seems to be a problem around here to getting a pizza delivered unless you go with the national chains which all are just okay. Then I read all the reviews about Nick's Pizza and I set my expectations very high. I suppose it really comes down to what your opinion of a New York style pizza is. My opinion of it is a crust that has a special taste to it and it must be thin towards the middle. It also must have plenty of cheese and high quality pepperoni. But the sauce is what makes a New York style pizza different from every other Pizza. There is a certain sweetness to the sauce and you can't taste any garlic in it. If I wanted a garlic sauce I would have ordered one. I'm not big on garlic and I know it has some health benefits and that's fine and dandy but I don't particularly care for it and I don't think it has a place in a New York style pizza. So it's a matter of taste and my taste buds we're not impressed with the overly garlicky sauce. I really wanted to give them a five star review because the service was excellent, the price was rather friendly and the owner must be an independent for me to want to give them a 5 star review. It's not that the pizza was bad; it's just that it was too different from what I know New York style should be. It must be a big hit with a lot of people because it does have lots of five star ratings and for that I salute the specialty of those people and making a pizza with plenty of garlic in its sauce. But it's just not for me. Did I miss order and get a different type of sauce that I should not have? Are there different sauces that Nick has for his pizza including the Grandma's slices? This would be the only way that I would try this pizzeria again. Maybe the owner could address this for me. I salute him but if this is the only sauce he...
Read moreTHIS IS PIZZA A NEW YORKER CAN LOVE! Having recently relocated from New York City to Florida, I was bombarded with recommendations as to where I could find the best Homestyle (aka New York City style) pizza. I've tried quite a few places which claimed to be the "best New York style" pizza in town and was disappointed by several of them. That was not the case with Nick's. They have the best I've had, yet down here. Their pies have just the right amount of everything; sauce, cheese, and toppings when ordered. Every pie I've ordered has been baked to perfection. Never too "chewy" thanks to undercooked dough or too crispy because it's almost burned. I've placed many orders since that first one but, I definitely wanted to make sure I took some time out to review them as one of the best I've had down here. If I have any complaint, it would be the uneven cutting of the slices. Being from NYC, I prefer my slices cut the old fashioned NYC way: slicing the pie like a clockface from 12 to 6, 9 to 3, 1 to 7 and 11 to 5 which makes for even slices everytime. No biggie, I simply order my pies uncut and do the honors myself. Nick's is definitely my go to pizza spot whenever I'm homesick for a good slice of well made authentic pizza. Anyone seeking a genuine New York City pizzeria style pizza slice or pie should make sure they don't miss out on Nick's. Five stars and two...
Read moreApril 12 2021.......Went by to pick up a Monday special - 16 inch Cheese Pie for $7.99. The service was awesome from Nelly and Noel (pie man). The pie was really good as always. I ask for it a bit crispy. I was just in Tallahassee and had a mediocre pie there. Had to come to Nick's right away to cleanse the palate.
March 1st 2021......Picked up a Large Cheese Pizza (on Mondays $7.99). It was a somewhat uneven cut but delicious. Also had a bag of Zeppole (Fried Dough with Powdered Sugar). Yum.
Last week.......First time there. I picked up a 10" cheese pizza to go and asked for it extra crispy (I always do). The pizza was very good. It did have a bit of a skunk line (a gumminess between the dough and sauce). This is caused sometimes by cool sauce and cheese on the dough or a dough too moist. But it was very good as was the service. Forgot to take a pic but this shows their slices.
Not my new go-to which is New York Pizza in Fern Park, but I will...
